•Dwayne's pov:
Finally stopping at a motel for the night, I exit the vehicle. Y/N is shortly behind me. We grab our bags and wait for everyone else to grab theirs. Y/N looks absolutely exhausted, bags under her eyes. Except this makes her look cuter than normal. Everyone eventually grabs their bags and we walk towards the stairs. We reach a row of doors with numbers on them.
"Here's 11. Frank, you're 12? And grandpa's 13." Mom explains, handing out the keys to each of the names she called.
"Mom? Can I sleep with grandpa?" Olive asks, Mom looks between Olive and Edwin.
"That's up to him." Mom answers simply. Olive looks up at Edwin.
"Grandpa....?" Olive asks, giving her best puppy dog face.
"Okay. I got two beds. You could still use some rehearsing anyway." Edwin teases.
"I know! That's why I said!" Olive argues, causing
Y/N to chuckle.
"Everyone, we're getting up at seven. I'll knock on your door. We want to be on the road by eight so we can be in Redondo in time for registration. It's two hundred miles so we can't dawdle." Richard explains, rushing us.
"Frank? You guys will be alright? How many beds are there? I don't want Y/N sleeping on the floor." Mom says, looking over at uncle Frank.
Y/N chuckles at mom.
"Sheryl, I'll be fiiiine. As long as I get to sleep somewhere that's not in the VW, I think I'll be fine." Y/N offers, beginning to sway with tiredness.
"We'll be fine." Uncle Frank says, I nod my head with a slight smile on my face.
"Okay. Goodnight. Sleep tight." Mom says, before kissing me and Olive on our foreheads.
I roll my eyes and wipe the saliva off my forehead. I wave goodbye to everyone else as me, Frank, and Y/N enter our room.
"Two beds...awesome." Y/N mutters, before falling face first onto the bed closest to the door.
"Guess Y/N claims that bed." Uncle Frank laughs.
Arguing is what stops the smile from forming on my face. Looking over at the wall that has mom and Richard's room next to ours, I scowl. Y/N picks her head up and looks up at me sleepily.
"What're they arguing about?" She asks, I shake my head.
I grab my notebook and sharpie. Writing down three simple words, I turn it to her.
"You don't know? Weren't you awake more than me on our way here?" Y/N asks, beginning to laugh.
My chest flutters, happy to hear her sweet laugh fill the air. The arguing continues in the room over from us, and Y/N stands, walking towards me. She places her hand on my shoulder and grabs my hand with her free hand.
"Hey, Frank? Me and Dwayne are gonna go outside for a bit, get some fresh air." Y/N says, pulling me towards the rooms door.
"Alright. Be back soon, and be safe!" Frank yells from the bathroom. Y/N smiles.
•Y/N's pov:
I had a sweet plan. Walk Dwayne outside and away from his arguing mom and step dick. It wasn't much, I'll be honest. But maybe we could both clear our heads. I pull Dwayne outside and down the steps we walked up to get to the second floor.
"Dwayne, I know you probably don't feel well from hearing your mom and Richard arguing. Sooo, I figured we could walk towards the small pond over by where we came from. I'm sure it looks amazing in this time of night." I explain, a smile on my face.
I look back at Dwayne to see him attempting to hide a smile of his own. Only to fail in the process as he has a goofy smile plastered on his lips. By the time we reach the small pond, I sit down on the cold ground. Dwayne does the same and sits besides me. He begins to scribble in his notebook, I tilt my head in confusion at this. He lifts it up for me to see.
'Thanks' it reads, I just nod my head.
"Of course Dwayne. I know we never really say it, but I really do appreciate you and your company. I hope you feel the same about that, though you obviously don't have to. You always thank me for being your voice. But Dwayne, thank you for being my friend." I say sincerely.
Dwayne looks down at me with an unreadable look on his face.
"I'm sorry for rambling..." I mutter, I hear a soft *hmpf* noise from beside me and I look up to see Dwayne holding a page of his notebook at me.
'Don't be sorry. It was cute. *You're* cute.' It reads, I feel my face heat up.
"Dwayne...I...thank you for saying that." I stutter out, only to begin chuckling at myself.
I lay my hands behind my back to prop myself up. I look down at the pond by us, the moon reflecting into the water. I let out a sigh, taking in the breathtaking scenery. I soon feel warmth on my hand, I turn to look at my hand, only to see Dwayne's left hand in my right. Dwayne has a smirk on his face as he stares up at the sky. I don't pull my hand away, instead, I clasp my fingers around his. His smirk vanishes and it's instead replaced with a light blush dusting his cheeks. I giggle and look back at the water. Some soft sounds of water waving over itself is in the background as I feel at peace. Just me and Dwayne.
I try to shift in my spot, refusing to unclasp my hand from Dwayne's. That ends up failing, as I tip over and onto Dwayne's side. I look down at Dwayne to see him looking up at me, the blush never once fading from his face. I get off of him quickly, too flustered to even look at him. I let go of his hand and look down at my lap. I feel his gaze boring into my skull. I don't have the courage to look up at him. It's once I feel a finger lift my chin up do I look at Dwayne. His face is close to mine, his breath hitting me in the face.
"Dwayne...I..." I whisper, looking down.
A soft kiss on my cheek is what makes me look at Dwayne. His lips are semi chapped, but smooth at the same time. I look him in the eyes and move my hands to grab his face. I lean in, my eyes darting back and forth from his eyes to his lips. His breathing must hitch in his throat as I don't feel him breathing much anymore. And as nervous as I am, I'd like Dwayne to be my first real kiss. I lean in towards his lips and I feel my lips hover over his. He closes the gap between us and he kisses me. Dwayne grabs the back of my neck and pulls me in closer to him. Our lips seem to awkwardly move in sync, which makes me think this is both of our first kiss. Dwayne pulls me onto his lap and I remove my hands from his face and to his hair. As I straddle the boy, I feel eyes on us.
I pull away and he gives me a confused look. I survey the area, to find no one around us. I kiss him on his now plump lips, and pull back. I get off of his lap, and stand. I extend my hand out, and he grabs it.
"I'm sorry I ruined it...I just think we'll be safer inside. I felt like we were being watched." I explain, Dwayne nods his head.
I notice a blush still dusting his cheeks. I feel my face heat up at the thought of what Dwayne and I had just done. I had never kissed someone before, let alone my best and only friend. I feel his fingers entangle into my own. I look down to see him holding my hand and I smile. I look back up as we reach the stairs to the second floor.
"So, which side of the bed do you want?" I ask jokingly.
Dwayne ponders this and lets go of my hand to get ahold of his notepad and sharpie.
"You get left. I'll sleep on the right." It reads once he finishes writing it up. I nod and smile up at him.
"We should uh, probably let go of each other's hands. I don't think we want your uncle picking on us." I say, chuckling. Dwayne nods and smiles, releasing my hand.
I knock on the door and Frank opens it up, looking at the two of us. He opens the door wider and lets us walk in.
"So...how'd it go? Was the fresh air nice?" Frank asks awkwardly. Dwayne nods his head and I smile.
"I think it was better than nice. What do you think Dwayne?" I ask, looking up at him. He shrugs, causing me to chuckle.
"Well that's good to hear then. You weren't gone for long, all things considered. Your mom and Richard are still arguing." Frank states, shooting a sympathetic look towards Dwayne. Dwayne once again shrugs.
"I'm not married to Stan Grossman! Jesus Richard, what're we gonna do?" I hear Sheryl ask. Dwayne makes a move towards the bed and begins to lay down.
"We just keep going..." I hear Richard say. Based off of the silence, this angers Sheryl even more.
"I can't, Richard, it's too much! It's too much, I can't take it!" Sheryl yells again.
Frank walks towards the tv and grabs the remote. Turning it on, and tossing the remote at Dwayne.
"Hey. Don't listen to that. Come on, let's watch the tube." Frank tries, looking between me and Dwayne.
"I'm gonna brush my teeth." Frank says, walking and entering the room's bathroom.
I walk over to the left side of the bed and lift up the sheets. Slipping underneath them, I turn to look at Dwayne, a scowl on his face.
"Hey...it's okay Dwayne." I try to reassure, he just looks up at the ceiling of the room.
"I trusted him, okay?! Step Three is you have to trust people!" Richard yells, I let out a groan.
"Fuck the Nine Steps, Richard! They're not working! It's over!! Forget it!! I never want to hear the Nine Steps again!" Sheryl screeches, causing me to wrap my arm around Dwayne and placing my head on his chest.
I look up at Dwayne to see a pained smile on his face. I lift up my head and look him in the eyes. I let out a sigh, giving him a look. He just grabs my right cheek and pulls me towards him. He kisses me on the lips for a few seconds, only to pull away.
"Let's get some sleep Dwayne. Alright?" I whisper, Dwayne nods and removed his hands from behind his head.
He pulls the covers up and over us, I close my eyes and feel a soft kiss on my forehead before I drift off.

A soft poke to my cheek wakes me up. I open my eyes to see light shining into the room. I notice Dwayne is still beside me, but his eyes are closed. I turn to my right to notice Olive beside me.
"Y/N?" Olive whispers.
"What's up Olive?" I mumble, still half asleep.
"Grandpa won't wake up."
