Lyla Potter's POV

That night, Lily and I snagged beds next to each other in our dormitory and started to unpack. Our dormitory was large, with a lot of open space. Only three first-year girls were sorted into Slytherin, so the room was very empty. The walls were made of stone blocks, with ivy streaked up and down them. Our beds were very soft, with sterling silver bedposts and green velvet canopy curtains. I let Licorice out of her carrier, and the third girl in the room looked at her with disgust.

"I'm Lily Lavigne," Lily said to the girl, trying to be polite.

"Jaiden Amery," The girl said, without looking at us.

"Lyla Potter," I said stiffly. I knew I wasn't going to like this girl. I turned to Lily.

"Excited for classes tomorrow?" I asked.

"Ecstatic!" Lily squealed, bouncing happily.

"If you're going to make this room all happy and nice, I don't know if I'll be able to last all year," Jaiden complained. I rolled my eyes.

"That sounds like a you problem. Not  a me problem." Lily said snarkily. Jaiden rolled her eyes.

"Keep rolling your eyes! You might find a brain up there!" I said mockingly. Jaiden made a face and turned away. She didn't interact with us for the rest of the night. I got ready for bed, closed my curtains, pulled the covers over my head, and quickly drifted off to sleep. The next morning, I blinked my eyes open and yawned, pulling open the curtains.

"Good morning," I said groggily.

"Shut it," Jaiden shouted.

"Hi," Lily whispered, sending a smile my way, "Are you excited about the first day?" I nodded. Jaiden groaned. I smirked. Lily and I climbed out of bed and got dressed, pulling on a white polo and a gray and green skirt. I tied a green and gray tie around my neck and threw on my robes, which now had the Slytherin patch sewn on the left side. Lily and I went down to the common room and I saw Draco sitting on the couch, so we sat down next to him.

"Oh hey, Potter," He said.

"Hey, Malfoy. This is my friend, Lily Lavigne." I introduced. Lily waved. Malfoy nodded in greeting.

"Wanna get breakfast with us?" Lily asked. Malfoy shrugged.

"Sure. Why not?" The three of us headed to the Great Hall.

Just like there were piles of dinner/dessert the night before, there were piles of breakfast foods this morning. Pancakes and waffles and crepes and french toast. Once again, I stuffed my face. I saw Harry walk into the Great Hall with Ron, and I quickly said

"Be right back!" To Draco and Lily and went to my twin.

"Harry!" I hugged him. He hugged me back.

"How was it?" Harry asked, concerned, "Slytherin, I mean." I shrugged.

"It's not that bad. Some of the people are really nice, once you get to know them." I said.

"Have you made friends besides Lily?" I nodded. "Who?"

"Draco Malfoy," I mumbled.

"Draco Malfoy?!" Harry exclaimed, "You can't be friends with him!"

"Well too bad for you, you don't decide who my friends are!" I snapped.

"He's a bully, Lyla!"

"According to the Sorting Hat, so am I!"

"You're not like him. You're not a bully." Harry's tone softened.
