It's unreal to Tom that the wrap party of the movie is already here. That two and a half months have passed just like that. It feels like only yesterday that he arrived on set, his nervous system on high alert. And it feels like only yesterday that he walked into the room where he's supposed to do the chemistry test and came face to face with Iris Liu.
But then again, time has become a concept that is lost on Tom. He has lost all sense of time since he and Iris filmed the scene in Leon's room a few weeks ago. He's stuck in a time warp, it feels like, his mind constantly replaying that particular scene. Haunting him. Taunting him.
And he can't stop thinking about his first day of filming - particularly the part where Harrison pointed out that he still had a crush on Iris. Tom was still in denial then so naturally he brushed it off. Didn't think much about it, even.
But as he spent more time with Iris, he soon had to come to terms that Harrison was right all along. That, yes, he still likes Iris Liu. That his stupid, stupid, treacherous heart has to go ahead and get involved - all over again. Harrison would be ecstatic - and smug as hell - if Tom were to admit this to him, which is why he won't.
And while he'd done a brilliant job at ignoring the hammering in his chest whenever he's around Iris, he became more and more rubbish at it after that scene. After he had to kiss Iris not once, not twice, but three times.
He remembers everyone telling them 'third time's a charm' but all he could think about was how utterly, irrevocably fucked he was. Because things aren't the same after that. At least, it isn't - for him. He can't stop thinking about the kiss. Can't stop wishing that he'll get a chance to do it again - but not as Leon. That thought has kept him up at night more times than he's willing to admit.
Thing is, he didn't know - and still doesn't know - if the kiss affected Iris as much as it did him. For purely selfish reasons, he hopes it affected her, even a little.
Tom scans the crowd. All around him, the crew members have swapped their sweaters and jeans with fancier outfits, and they give Tom a nod and a smile as they catch his eyes.
He's been here for nearly fifteen minutes but he hasn't seen her yet.
"Looking for someone?" Tom turns to his right and sees Harrison approaching him, a shit-eating grin adorning his lips. Instead of answering, Tom brings his glass up to his lips and takes a couple of sips. "Saw her talking to Lily at the open bar. You know, now's as good a time as any to tell her."
Tom frowns. "Tell her what?"
Harrison gives him a pointed look. "That you like her."
"I don't—" The words die on his tongue when Iris and Lily approach them. A smile slides onto his face. He's acutely aware of Harrison's eyes on him, judging his every move (no doubt he'll give him endless shit when they leave later) but that's the least of his concern at the moment. Not when his heart is threatening to burst from his chest when Iris stops in front him, her lips pulled into a wide grin. "Hey."
"Hey," Iris grins. "Looked everywhere for you."
Tom's eyes widen momentarily, his heart vaulting to his throat. "You were?"
"Yeah," Iris nods. "Couldn't start without you, could we?"
"Right. Yeah, of course."
"Hey, Lil, do you want to check out what they're serving?" Harrison asks the other girl standing next to Iris.
It's an obvious attempt to get Tom alone with Iris and Tom can't decide if he wants to hug his friend or strangle him - it's always a bit of both when it comes to Harrison Osterfield.
