Tom is in the middle of getting his hair and makeup done when Harrison bursts into his trailer — no knocks, no greetings.
"Hey Ann, remind me to lock my trailer next time," Tom says to his makeup artist who simply shakes her head at him. "Can't have a div coming in and out whenever he wants."
From the reflection of the mirror in front of him, Tom can see his best friend rolling his eyes at him.
"I'm the div?" Harrison scoffs as he throws himself onto the couch. "I'm all set up, mate. You're the one who's taking forever to get ready. No offence to you, Ann, you're great."
Again, Ann shakes her head, refusing to get in between these two boys. She continues to fix Tom's hair, lips pressed into a thin line as she focuses on the task at hand.
Truth is, Tom has been waiting for his best friend to come bursting into his trailer. It's weird not having him around all the time, what with Harrison owning his own trailer this time around as he got the best friend part in this movie. Harrison didn't tell him that he auditioned for the part and he only found out about it when the list of the casts came out. When there's an article that said "Harrison Osterfield and Lily Munroe will be joining Tom Holland and Iris Liu in Kim Davison's The (Mis)Fortune of Knowing You" came out. Tom didn't bother reading the whole article before calling Harrison to both congratulate and give him shit about it.
"So, are you nervous?" Harrison asks.
"A little," he answers. Harrison shoots him a questioning look. "It's just... Dunno, just nervous about this being my first rom-com, I guess."
It's supposed to be a nonchalant answer but it comes out a little strained and Harrison raises an eyebrow at him.
Tom doesn't usually get nervous about the first day of filming, not really, but this time he is. He didn't think much about it until he woke up this morning and found that he had butterflies in his stomach — even after spending hours upon hours practicing his lines, the nerves didn't go away. That's when he knows that this anxiety has nothing to do with the first day of filming. But rather on who he'll be filming with.
When he walked into the room where he was supposed to do his chemistry test with the potential Sabrina Woods a few weeks ago, he didn't think he'd walk in and come face to face with Iris Liu.
He was told that he'd be doing the test with Layla and Iris, but it didn't cross his mind that the Iris they were talking about was Iris Liu — the girl he worked with half a decade ago and the girl he once considered his close friend.
His heart was thumping like crazy when she turned around and when they hugged, he felt as though his heart might leave his body altogether. Then, he went ahead and made a fool of himself. He was going to tell her that she looked beautiful but he stumbled over his words and he paused longer than appropriate. He could tell that, for a moment there, he made her uncomfortable as she waited for him to finish his sentence. In the end, he settled for a 'great' and 'amazing' when the truth was, those two words didn't even cover it. She looked better than great and amazing. She looked...
Tom snaps out of his thoughts and pushes the memory of that day to the back of his mind. It's not helping in making him feel less nervous.
"Is this because..." Harrison trails off when he meets Tom's glare in the mirror. The scowl is all the answer he needs because stirrings of a smirk tug at the corner of his mouth and he tilts his head at his friend and says, "So it's about your leading lady."
"No," Tom answers a little bit too quickly and a little bit too squeaky. He clears his throat, then, and repeats, "No."
"Suuuure."
