Chapter 17

3rd person

It wasn't long after Brooke had perched on the thick oak tree branch when a twig snapped, signaling a presence near the oak. "Ms.Lovegood" a kind, elderly voice called from the bottom of the tree.

Dumbledore, Brooke instantly knew.

She gently fluttered down, landing on a branch level with Dumbledore's head.

"I do believe there are some people here to see you".

She cocked her head to the side in confusion.

Dumbledore simply smiled and stroked down her head, before apprating back to the castle.

There was a rustling in one of the patches of bush, before a stag and a huge, rugged black dog emerged.

The same animals she had seen in the forest with the werewolf!

Brooke squarked in alarm, spiraling up onto a branch a meter above her previous spot.

"Brooke! Don't worry, it's us, Sirius and James!" The dog barked.

"Sirius?! Does- does that mean Remus- Remus is a werewolf..." Brooke cawed, going silent at the end.

There was a moment of stillness, before the dog -Sirius- dipped it's head.

Both Sirius and James were staring at the ground as if it had become the most interesting thing on the planet.

"Poor Remus" Brooke cooed softly.

Both of the boy's heads snapped up.

"Wait" James spoke up, "You're not scared?".

Brooke's feathery head shook.

The boy's exchanged glances, before telling her to follow them. The three of them left the forest, changing back to human form at the forest line.

The common room deserted- that's halfway through classes for you.

Sirius didn't pause as barged door to the Marauders dorm open, striding over and flopping down his red and gold bed,  James following suite.

Brooke's P.O.V

The first thing I saw when I entered the dorm was Remus...

With a long, deep scratch running down his arm.

Oh my... That's what I did, isn't it?

"Remus, I am so, so sorry!" I took a step forward, easily sliding into my phoenix form. I glided over the room and landed lightly on Remus's shoulder.

My own sadness over causing one of my closest friends pain spurred a tear to fall from my eye, right onto Remus's arm.

We both watched in fascination as the injury began to close, before disappearing altogether.

Remus blinked in amazement, turning his head to look at me.

He gently stroked down my head. I cooed, nudging his cheek before hopping off and back into my human form on the bed beside him.

I glanced up, only to see both James and Sirius grinning like idiots.

James reached a hand out for me to shake, and spoke 4 words.

"Welcome to the Marauders".
