Forgetful Morning

The day is new. My thoughts are short, as they always are. As they always should be. I'm lying awake in a bed I don't recognize, but by the looks of the room around me, I think I'm at an inn.

Mass'de sits up, in a bed only big enough for himself. He lets out a small sigh of relief as he tries to recollect his memories of how he ended up here. Looking around the room, there was no blood or empty bottles- there was nothing out of place. Which seemed like a good thing at first, but it quickly confused the man. It was so..quiet. So..peaceful. It was a situation he was unused to. Mass'de dragged himself out of the bed, noticing a note on the bedside drawer once he stood up. It was written in common..not exactly the greatest for him. He studied it for a moment, luckily the words were simple- as if it were written by someone who knew about his...troubles.

'Hey! Paid for room. Do not worry. Meet me and gang in lobby for food!
-Denzel'

Ah..of course. Who else would've written the note? Certainly not Torment, after all, she'd just write it in infernal- which would be easier. Mass'de set the note back down before carrying himself to the bathroom. A shower wouldn't hurt. Probably.

Mass'de stepped into the shower, shuddering as the cold water touched his skin. He always forgot to wait for the water to heat up. He stood and let the shower slowly warm up over him. It trickled down his face and droplets voyaged their way through his hair. It was like hot rain, but it was nice. He slathers soap over himself sloppily and takes way more shampoo and conditioner than he needs. The shower lasts longer than he realizes, but it's certainly refreshing once he steps out.

Mass'de checks out of his room, returning his key to the front counter. He looks around for about 0.02 seconds before noticing Denzel sticking out like a sore thumb. Mass'de would roll his eyes at that, but it's not like Denzel can control being 7'3" and blue. He could do something about that haircut though..

"Mass'de! Look they've got free breakfast!" Denzel shouted while waving Mass'de over. Mass'de had to take a moment to stop his tail from wagging.

What was that about? My tail doesn't wag. That's. Embarrassing. And childish.. Why was it even wagging in the first place?!

Mass'de continues to walk over to the group, and immediately darts over to grab a plate of food after greeting them.

"Hey Mass'de- did'ya sleep well? You were tired as fuck last night," Denzel said with a mouthful of food- which promptly got him an elbowing from Torment. Denzel swallows before continuing. "Right. Yeah. Don't talk with food in mouth. Sorry 'bout that. Anyways. So? Sleep well?" His eyes lock on Mass'de again quizzically.

Mass'de raised his eyebrows. He had to take a moment to swallow his food, otherwise, Torment'd get his ass too. He cleared his throat, "O-oh um. Yeah. Sleep. Was good. Yup. Slept well." He smiled and pretended to know why he had been so tired in the first place. And he wasn't lying- he did have an amazing sleep! He just..didn't know why. And it's not like he was hungover or anything. It was a mystery he had to find out, he supposed. Torment eyed him, she could tell he was fibbing..not about sleeping..but, y'know. About last night.

The group continued eating their breakfast, it was nice. They didn't often get moments to just chill out and talk as a group. Mass'de was mostly quiet. Mostly trying to remember yesterday. Trying to figure out why his tail wags involuntarily around this group. Trying to figure out why he felt so strongly about this group he'd not even know for a year. Trying to figure out why he felt so strongly about Denz- Mass'de shook his head as if to ward off the racing thoughts. So many things..so fast- It was something that he just couldn't handle.

Mass'de left the inn after breakfast with Torment and only Torment. That's how it should be, really. The two of them. That's what's comfortable.

"Hey, you good? You're being kinda weird." Torment leans over to nudge Mass'de. Mass'de just gives her a confused stare. "It seemed like you didn't remember yesterday. And then you were quiet during breakfast- which isn't really out of the ordinary, but you just seemed like you had a lot on your mind. Which is saying a lot. Y'know. Because you usually don't have anything on your mind."

Mass'de rolled his eyes at the dig before taking the chance to speak his mind. "Um. Yeah. To be honest- I really just..don't remember yesterday? Like at all. That's not all I've been thinking about..but it's um. Important."

"The fair. You went out to the fair with the idiot troupe. That's what happened yesterday. How'd you end up forgetting that?" Torment eyed Mass'de with worry in her eyes.

The fair. That's right! It felt like it happened weeks ago..but it was yesterday. Last night. And I ended up staying out late as hell with Denzel. Yeah! Yeah, that's right! We were starwatching or whatever he called it.

Torment watched as the gears finally turned in Mass'de's head. "The fair..yeah. I remember now. I think I just was having a brain fart or something. I stayed out so late, I guess my brain needed to catch up. You know when something happens and you feel like it was forever ago but it was actually like..recent?"

Torment nods her head. "Ohh, yup. I get that. Well, I'm glad there wasn't anything serious about that. You said that wasn't the only thing on your mind. Was there something else? You wanna talk?"

Mass'de's face flusters somehow..weird considering he's already red. He looks to the ground and aggressively shakes his head no. He wasn't much of a 'share our feelings' kinda guy. He found it embarrassing and un-manly.

"You suure? Last call! You sure you don't wanna talk about a certain someone..?" Torment snickers.

"Wh-what? No! N-no. No I don't. Why would I even wanna talk about Denzel anyways..."

Torment laughs. A little too hard honestly. She has to take a moment to catch her breath before she can even respond. "I'll have you know that I never even said Denzel's name. But it's fine. I know you're not the biggest talker. Seeya later, okay?" She play-punches Mass'de in the shoulder, leaving him blushing and blubbering in the middle of the street.

What am I gonna do now..? It's been a while since I've actually had a day to myself... Usually, that blue giant drags me around everywhere against my will. Both when I'm working AND when I'm not. Not that it's a necessarily bad thing. Usually, we have fun..and I enjoy our time together- GAH. What am I thinking? Stupid gushy. Feelings. And emotions. Stupid. And they're not even about a girl..annoying.

Mass'de shakes the thoughts out of his head again before looking around at where to go. He didn't want to just be a weirdo standing in the street all day, that's for sure. Mass'de looked around the area, he was standing right by the library. Taking another moment to think, Mass'de decided it'd probably be best to hone up on his common in the library.
