Evenly spaced beeps are the first thing you hear.
You try to open your eyes but it doesn't work. So instead you opt to try moving any of your limbs, but you can't feel your right leg and the left is too heavy, your right hand screams with uncomfortable feeling and so you're left with one hand- And even then all you could do was twitch your fingers.
Apparently the smallest of motions still helped you out, as not a second later you feel your fingers being intertwined with someone else's. A watch gently presses against your wrist and its the only clue you needed.
Tricia.
"Shush Mahal, wag mo munang pilitin. Mahina pa katawan mo." You have no idea what happened to you, but if Tricia's voice sounds that hoarse and you're in this state.. Well it doesn't take a genius to know something bad had happened.
She runs a thumb across the back of your hand, pressing kisses to your knuckles every so often. You hear someone else shift on your other side before your consciousness starts to drift.
"She's stable naman Trish, her lungs are doing fine despite the puncture she came here with, her leg has been repaired thanks to the Ortho team, and Neuro team has just sent in the CT scan, despite the very small chance of coma due to head trauma they're confident na hindi un mangyayari. Kailangan lang niya talagang magpahinga-"
Yeah, you didn't take Med back in college and you certainly didn't have any clue as to what on Earth they continued to talk about.
The sound of two people talking fades away from your senses, but one thing is clear before sleep overtakes you.
Tricia never lets go of your hand.
------------------------------------------------------------
"Kamusta naman siya 'nak?"
Tricia smiles tiredly as her mother hugs her. She returns the hugs with as much enthusiasm as her tired body would let her.
"She's stable, pero laging in and out of consciousness siya..."
Leni stands beside her daughter, one hand on her second's shoulder while she places her other hand on your forearm. She doesn't fail to notice the way Tricia's eyebrows are furrowed in conflict despite knowing that you are in stable condition.
"Ano pang ibang nahanap niyo tungkol sa kalagayan ni Y/N ngayon?"
Tricia lets out a loud and shaky exhale, the grip she has on your hand tightens but despite the fact that Leni sees how her daughter's grip marks your hand, there's no sign of discomfort nor movement from you.
"May chance na ma-coma siya mama."
Her back hunches as she brings your hand to her lips. Tears stream down her face and the current Vice President of the Philippines feels the heavy tension on her child's shoulder. It takes all her strength not to let her tears break free as her daughter faces her nightmarish thoughts of her lover not waking up from her slumber.
The fear of losing a loved one can grip you like a chokehold. But the experience of losing someone who holds your heart- She prays that her daughter doesn't have to know how it feels at such a young age.
Leni walks away for a second, grabbing a chair and setting it beside her daughter. She moves it a little closer to the doctor before she sits and placesp a hand back on Tricia's shoulder.
"Malakas siya anak, don't do her the disservice of thinking na magpapatalo siya habang lumalaban pa siya para mas umayos ang kalagayan niya."
It takes a short while, but her mother's words seem to have the desired effect on her as her silent sobs slow down and the tears streaming down her face runs slow until none fall anymore. Soon enough, Tricia's eyelids start to get heavy.
Her mother notices this, and gently squeezes her shoulder. "Shift mo pa rin ba ngayon?" The younger woman shakes her head. "Tapos na po, at kinuha ko na rin po yung owed off saakin at pinaschedule ko bukas."
The Vice President lightly smiles at her daughter in show of support. "Pahinga ka muna anak, ako na muna mag babantay at kung may mabago man sa condition ni Y/N gigisingin kita."
Tricia takes a moment to wipe her face of the tears before she nods. She takes the glasses off her face and places them by your thigh before using her other arm as a makeshift pillow on your bedside. She tries to stay awake for a little longer, her eyes on the monitor beside your bed. But as soon as her eyes close, her breathing evens out and the mother knows that her child has fallen asleep.
Leni places a kiss on your forehead before doing the same to her own daughter, she takes Tricia's glasses and puts them in her shirt pocket just before the door opens and her Eldest quietly steps inside the room.
Her phone rings and she quickly takes it out and presses the answer button before her younger daughter gets disturbed.
Jillian's face shows up on the screen, and she asks the question all three of them had wanted answered.
"Anong nangyari?"
