I was busy with meetings on Wednesday. I was sitting in a financial meeting when my text went off. I glanced at the screen and saw it was from Lin. I smiled to myself and my fingers itched to open it and read it. Then it went off again.
The speaker looked at me, "Do you need to take that? "
"No. Just check ins from the Texas office," I said turning the phone over, "please continue."When the meeting was over, I opened my phone.
--Are you free this evening? I hope so. Let me know. I have a surprise.--
The next one made me chuckle.
--Damn, you are working. Sorry brain just goes on a tangent. Let me know ASAP.--I shook my head and texted back.
--I should be free about six--I received a thumbs up emoji but nothing else. I laughed and my colleague Bob smiled at me. We had been friends for a few years and he usually came on these trips. He was the best lawyer our company had and his wife Maria was the second best.
"What is making you laugh? You seem happy. You actually didn't frown during that money meeting. Or bite anyone's head off," I smiled and shook my head. Bob pushed his glasses up his nose and adjusted his blue tie. He stared at me then cocked his head, "Maria would get the dirt out of you. What is his name?"
I blushed, "Bob, why do you think it is a man? And yes, Maria would dig."
"You just confirmed it is a man. Who is he? Does he know about you?"
"Bob, he doesn't. We met in a bookshop. We are just.." I watched him dial his phone , "Are you calling Maria? Don't."
He was already speaking as I lunged for his phone. He pulled away then handed me the phone, "Maria wants to speak to you."
"No," I said as I put my hands up.
"Talk," Bob said, holding out the phone.
I huffed and took the phone, "Tell your spouse to quit being mean to me."
The rich laughter filled my ears, "He is just worried. Now, who is this man you are talking to?"
My mind raced. Maria knew who Lin-Manuel Miranda was. We had talked about him before and had watched him in various things. I couldn't tell her the truth, so I lied to my friend, "Just a guy I met at the bookshop."
"You went to Drama Bookshop? Did you see Lin there?"
"No. He doesn't work there."
"Honey, you know you have to be careful. If this ended badly...."
"Maria, I am having fun. I am happy. I know we can't have any bad press. I am careful."
"Have you slept with him?"
"Mmmm."
"Claire? "
"Mmm. Yes."
"Good. Bob said you were happy. Thank God. Just be careful. "
"I will."
We hung up and I handed the phone back to Bob. He nodded at me and we headed into our next meeting.
When I got to my suite late that day, there was an envelope waiting for me. Inside was a ticket to that evening's performance of Hamilton and a note from Lin.
"I got you a ticket for your first Broadway musical. Yep it's my show. Must go to the best. I hope you enjoy and make sure to keep the stub. Tuck it away. Wish I could sit with you and enjoy watching your emotions as it plays out. Unfortunately, I cannot as I have to be elsewhere tonight. Know that I am with you in spirit. LMM"I decided to not change and went in my black skirt and green top. I hailed a cab and was dropped off near the theatre. I walked to the box office and presented my ticket. The attendants' eyes got big then he smiled at me.
"You got an amazing seat. Front and center. Have you seen the show?"
I smiled, "No. This is my first ever. A friend gifted me."
He nodded, "Yeah, the guy that gives these is a great guy," he handed me the stub, "Make sure you have the usher show you to your seat. Enjoy."
Ten minutes later, with a drink in my hand, I was escorted to the front row of the theatre. I asked the usher twice before she left me if this was the right seat. She smiled and assured me that it was. She left me and I sat down. I took a picture of the playbill and texted it to Lin and to Maria. She sent me back a sad emoji and I promised her we would return together to watch it. An older couple soon sat beside me and we struck up a conversation.
"I have seen this musical 51 times including tonight," she told me, "I love it so much."
"Really, this is my first time ever. I am excited."
"This cast is amazing. I enjoyed the OBC most of course. Because they were the first. My husband Ronnie took me 4 times when they were all here. Now it's a tradition. We come on my birthday and our anniversary ," she kissed her husband.
"Awe. So, is it Happy Birthday or Happy Anniversary today," I asked.
"It's neither my dear," she said, "We got tickets from our granddaughter. She is playing the bullet starting tonight. We are so excited. Have you seen this on Disney?"
"Yes and I enjoyed it. I can't wait to watch. Congratulations to your granddaughter. I bet you are excited to watch her."
"Oh yes."
We settled in as the show began. I found myself mesmerized by the music and the story. It was truly better live and before Right Hand Man began I knew I would have to see it again and again.
At intermission I hurried to use the restroom. When I got back to my seat, an usher was waiting for me. He asked me to collect my items and follow. I worried I was getting kicked out which was ridiculous. I bade the older couple goodbye and followed the usher to one of the boxes. The view from here was even better. You were looking down on the scene instead of up so you could see more. The usher showed me to a pair of blue velvet chairs, told me to enjoy, and left me alone. I sat down and put my empty drink cup and playbill on the table beside me. I heard footsteps on the stairs and turned toward the sound.
He was wearing a black suit with a black shirt and green tie. I laughed because once again we matched. His eyes skimmed over me as he turned on that beautiful smile. I stood and hurried to his side. He pulled me into his arms and captured my mouth. We kissed hungrily until the lights flickered announcing the second act was to begin. I took his hand and led him back to the velvet chairs.
"What are you doing here? Does anyone know we are together up here ?"
"No one knows. Ushers just think you got upgraded for the remainder of the show. It really does happen sometimes. I got done early and decided to come and watch the second act with you. I needed to see you. Sit."
We sat down as the musical began. We held hands and I laid my head on his shoulder. As Take a Break started, Lin leaned over and kissed me hard on the lips. He groaned as he broke the kiss. He dropped my hand and put his up my skirt. I spread my legs so he could push aside my panties and put his fingers in me. I reached my hand over and cupped him through his trousers and squeezed. We stared at each other silently thinking, asking. He dug in his pocket and pulled out a condom. We both stood up, while he took off his pants, I lost my panties and tucked my skirt up. He turned the chair and had me lean over the arms. He entered me from behind as Maria Reynolds took Alexander to her bed. I could still watch the show as he fucked me. I leaned back and rocked on his cock, loving the sensation it was giving me. I bit my lip so I wouldn't cry out and he started kissing my neck to keep himself quiet. His hands covered mine and we gripped the chair to steady ourselves. I felt that knot tightening in my stomach and my breathing got more rapid. He started going faster running us right over that crest. We stood panting for a minute then pulled apart. I grabbed a tissue and cleaned up. He removed the used condom and put his trousers back on. He sat in the other chair and pulled me on top of him. We watched the rest of the musical like that. He held me as I started crying during Best of Wives to sobbing during the finale.
He kissed my brow as the cast bowed,
"I gotta go. No one can know we were here together."
I got off his lap and he stood. He kissed my lips and put our foreheads together. "Text tomorrow," I asked.
"Will try. Meetings."
"Me too."
" I'll go. Wait 10 minutes then go. Ok?, " he kissed me again before leaving.
I sighed and gathered my things. All I could think to myself was WOW.
