Okok I'm so sorry this took so long for an update, I was having a bit of writers block and then I was so busy but your girls got a plan to bring this story back to life. I'm going to update some of the older chapters too and fill them out a bit more and add chapters together so there's more reading with less ads! I'll let you all know when it's been updated though. Anyway hope you enjoy.
Nat and Wanda whispered to each other after me and Yelena finished explaining what had happened.
"Are you guys being serious?" Wanda sounded uncertain, I was confused because surely she could hear our thoughts. I looked at Yelena who looked just as confused as I felt.
"Did you two drink too much again?" Nat asked as she slowly walked towards me, "you guys did bang heads pretty hard too..."
Wanda nodded, "you've both spent a lot of time under high stress maybe you-""You better not be about to say imagined it!" Yelena got there first with our defence, her accent seemed to be getting thicker the more annoyed she got .
"Can't you see it it our memories?" That was the confusing part surely it should be there in plain view.
"It's really jumbled. I can't see properly" Wanda tried to explain but Yelena didn't want to hear it.
"Surely that is sigh enough?"
My anger was slowly evaporating, they were supposed to believe us, they were supposed to know what to do. I could feel the tears beginning to sting my eyes, I didn't dare look at Yelena I could feel the disappointment radiating off her.
"It's hard to say....it's not that different to the memories you've got from being drunk" Wanda said softly. Nat hadn't said anything for a while she was just quietly watching it all unfold, twisting the ring she was wearing on her thumb. I took a shaky breath and mumbled something about coffee and a shower, I needed to be out of that room and away from them all before the last of my walls crumbled and I broke down.It wasn't until I locked the bathroom door and found myself on the bathroom floor that the tears began to fall. I'd of believed anything Nat told me, maybe that made me a fool, but why didn't they trust us about this? I know me and Lena had a history of being stupid but surely they could see it in our faces that we weren't joking around. I tried to push the thoughts from my head, maybe the body swapping was a one off? Maybe it would be something we could control? It didn't make sense as a weapon but it did explain the endless experimenting that hydra must have done to get it to this point. My brain felt like it was just about to have an epiphany when there was a soft knock on the door.
"It's me...can we talk?" Romanoff sounded unsure for a moment.
"I'm nearly done I'll be out soon." I could hear the sadness in my own voice, great so much for hiding it. After I dragged myself up off the shower floor, I stared at myself long and hard in the mirror, had we imagined it?I padded quietly into the bedroom I'd claimed and found Nat sat ready and waiting.
"You were crying?" She was up and had her arms wrapped around me before I could answer, I buried my face into her neck and stopped trying to control my emotions. At some point she manoeuvred us to the bed and I found myself being slowly rocked until I calmed down. Eventually I wiped the tears from my face and began to mumble the story of everything to Nat.
"I'd believe you...even if you told me you been to space and back and met a talking raccoon" I picked at my thumb nail waiting for her logical arguments about why it couldn't be true."It does make sense as a weapon, we thought it was something needed for mass destruction, mass illness. Something extreme but there's power in the subtly of it." I had no idea what she was on about so I just nodded along until she continued. "Imagine if they could swap out one of their most loyal soldiers with someone like the president, kings or queens. You could implant anyone anywhere. No disguise needed"
I scrambled out of her arms to face her. "Are you saying you believe us?" I held one her hands tight in mine and held my breath.
She stared deep into my eyes before very slowly nodding, she gently took my chin and pulled me into a soft lazy kiss. She broke the kiss looking amused, "we need a safe word for if you guys body swap and we're together." I was about to agree when her eyes flicked back to serious. "Hydra can't know it worked" the words must have dawned on Wanda at the same time as she barged into the room Yelena in tow."We have to split back up" Wanda looked between me and Yelena.
"We need to look like business as usual while we work out away to either control our new talents or cure them" I was still trying to get Yelena to agree, she wanted to stay as a four on the run or fake our own deaths. Originally I wanted to go back to the compound and see Bruce but a certain Natasha Romanoff wasn't in the green guys good books anymore and she thought it was best to stay out of his way. Good.
Nat and Wanda had gone to get supplies and probably try and get a message to Fury. So far the plan was Wanda and Yelena were going back to the compound and Nat and I were going on an actual surveillance mission. The body swapping was going to be on a need to know basis. The four of us, Bruce, Tony and Fury, Nat ever the queen of paranoia had decided any leaks would probably end up with us all getting caught or watched. Hydra would want to know why it had worked on me and Yelena and not previous experiments. It didn't really sound like anything could go wrong!
