Nick got off his horse and looked at the ruins of Flowertopia. He takes a second to take in the sight before making the way to his old home. The ashes and charred grass below his boots crunched softly before he stopped at what once was the front door. He remembers the night Flowertopia burnt down. He woke up to thick smoke, he panicked looking for his fiancées. He burst out of the front door to see Silver standing just watching the fire burn. Silver began looking for Mal while Nick ran swiftly into the house. He tried to grab every important thing he could. His papers, Silver's book, and started looking for Mal's compass. He couldn't find Mal's compass he started to rip mal's drawer apart looking for it. The hot flames had crept into the home. A necklace on top of the nightstand caught his eye he grabbed it before running through the fire outside. He caught his breath and realized what the necklace he had grabbed was. The shiny engagement ring was polished and reflected the fire. He gripped the ring before telling silver to stop looking. He scoffed now at the memory. He walked through the door way the once stunning hand carved wood snapped and disinterested under the softest breeze. He walked to his old metal chest at the edge of the bed. Despite the fire and year of being exposed to the elements, the old lock and chest still held strong. Nick had forgotten the key the night he and silver evacuated. Nick searched the ruins of the home going down to the lower levels and tearing through the lovingly placed chests and other things. Knocking over the bookshelves and pictures that were untouched by the fire. He eventually found the key, haphazardly thrown on the counter with all of Silvers brewing materials. He unlocked the old chest and started hunting for the item. If this had been a few months ago he would have stopped to consider if this was even worth it, but he was no longer the same man. He found the small wooden box him and mal got as an engagement gift. He cracked open the dark oak case and looked at the compasses they had each received. Nick's compass sat in its spot the green ribbon still neatly tied around out. Mal's compass for him had never been put back since the day they got it. The orange bow laid where the compass should be. He took his compass and ripped the ribbon off. Without closing the chest or box Nick left. He smacked the compass a few times and it recalibrated. Now pointing towards Mal's direction. Nick left the house in disarray and got back on his horse. No thought in his mind other than he was going to take revenge on Mal for the night she abandoned them.
