It was the morning after the absolute disaster that was the science convention, and Fenton had rushed into the lab.

    "DR. GEARLOOSE-"

"bAh-" The sleep-deprived scientist jumped from where he'd been fixing the gizmosuit. "Intern- you're early. I'm in the middle of fixing the suit that you destroyed. Now go away."

"But Dr. Gearloose, I think I may have discovered our solution to the Dark Cardinal problem!"

The attacker from last night, a.k.a the Dark Cardinal, had been a recurring problem for the scientists. The winged menace would fly in, steal tech, and disappear before anyone could catch them. Gizmoduck had spent weeks trying to stop the thief, only to be duped by them and their magically-enhanced technology every time.

They had tried adding different advancements to the gizmosuit in an attempt to counteract it, but Cardinal was always one step ahead. The two barely got any sleep over trying to find her weakness.

"What are you going on about, Intern?" While Gyro's tone was snappy, the curiosity was evident in his voice.

"What if we had a superpower of our own?"

Barely even a week after the convention passed and Ariel was already back to inventing. The catastrophe did nothing but encourage Ariel to keep working on her gizmos. It didn't matter how many times her inventions exploded or how much trial and error she had to go through. If Gizmoduck believed in her, she can believe in herself too!

She'd been working on another gizmo helmet when her aunt called her downstairs.

"Get down here kiddo, we have guests!"

Curiosity peaked, Ariel made her way to the bar. She gaped at what she saw.

Sitting on the bar stool was the same scientist she'd met that fateful night.

Next to Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera was a man she recognized from posters at the convention. Gyro Gearloose had his arms crossed in disinterest, contrasting Fenton's polite smile and attentiveness.

"Hi Ariel!" Fenton's smile widened when he noticed her walk in. The other two turned their attention to her, making her feel a little flustered.

"Um- hello..." Ariel waved shyly, "...what's going on?"

Donna placed a comforting hand on her back. "Ok hon, I was talking to these scientist gentlemen here and they want to offer you an internship in Duckburg!"

    Ariel's eyes widened.

"My intern wouldn't stop blabbering about some kid he met at the convention, going on and on about how much potential he sees in her. That's you, if you haven't caught on yet." Gyro doesn't hide his sarcasm but Ariel's too shocked to notice.

Fenton nodded. "Yup! McDuck Industries only accepts the best and I- we - (he gestures to Gyro) - believe that with the right resources and training, that could be you!"

The adults all look at Ariel with expectantly with anticipation. She just stood there and gaped, trance only broken by Donna clearing her throat.

"I- wow, ok. Are you sure you aren't mixing me up for someone else?" Ariel tilted her head, her tone unsure but mixed with a little hope.
