Timothée sat on the edge of the bridge, staring at the water below. This was a place he came to often whenever he was back home. A tear slid down his cheek and down into the rushing water below. The current was steady and strong, the weather starting to chill around him, and the sky darkened, signaling rain doon. He looked up to the sky as thunder rumbled overhead then, looking back down at the water that was constantly moving below. Timothée sat in silence seriously considering letting himself freefall into the cold water.

"I miss you." He said to no one. "Sometimes I feel like I can't keep going without you."

The sound of kids running by on the bank below the bridge pulled his attention, momentarily calming his urge to toss himself below. A small smile crept across his lips thinking of the two of you playing down in the grass beneath the river as kids. The smile soon faded as a light drizzle began to fall from the darkened sky. Timothée closed his eyes and tilted his head back, feeling the rain on his face.

"You know how much I love you, right?" Timothée said as he held both your hands in his, finger entwined.

"As much as I love you."

Timothée smiled into the rain, the memory feeling like a warm embrace.

"Is forever supposed to start this young?" You asked laying on the grass beneath the bridge.

"For us, yes." Timothée told you, turning his head looking at you. You turn facing him and smile. "Because there is nothing in this world that would make me believe you aren't my future." He pressed a kiss to your lips.

Timothée's smile suddenly faded as his head fell forward.

"How can you be so selfish?!" You spat out at him. "How could you hurt me like this?! You're supposed to love me!"

"I do love you!" Timothée tried to pull you into his arms, but you pushed him away.

"Don't touch me!"

Tears were now a steady stream down Timothée's face.

"Just get into the damn car!" Timothée yelled at you.

"Don't drive like an ass, Tim!" You warn him, slamming the door. "Just take me home."

"Why can't you just listen to me? You know I love you."

"If you loved me, you wouldn't have done what you did!"

"I fucked up! I'm sorry! I'm not perfect!"

"I didn't want perfect, Timothée! I just wanted you!"

The rain started falling harder matching the tears falling from Timothée's face.

"Timmy, slow down!"

"I know how to drive in the rain, Y/N!"

Timothée's hands gripped the concrete that he sat on with white knuckles.

"Timmy!"

You scream his name, the sound of screeching tires and a loud bag.

"Hold on! I'll pull you out!" Timothée shouted, reaching for your hand from the driver's side window.

He pulled with everything he had. "Timmy, my leg is stuck!"

"Help is coming, baby!"

Timothée was now sobbing, breathing harder, his whole body starting to shake.

"They're stabilizing the car they will get you out!"

He feels hands pulling him away. "That car's going!"

"Timmy, please don't leave!" You shout, feeling his grip leave your hand. "Timmy!"

"Get off me!" He screamed trying to stay with you.

The car falls off the edge, smashing and crashing into the racing water below.

Timothée can't stop the tears falling as violently as the rain was pouring from the sky. "I tried." He whispered. "I tried so hard, baby. I'm sorry."

Timothée moved mechanically as he got up and left the bridge. He didn't remember the drive or getting out of the car or walking through the entrance. Still damp, he walked inside, knowing the way as if his body was on autopilot.

"Timothée?" A man's voice spoke, turning when he heard footsteps at the door. "It's been a while." The man said, standing, walking over to Timothée.

"I'm sorry." Timothée spoke, his voice breaking, barely audible.

"For what, son?"

"Not being here in so long." Timothée pushed his wet hair from his face.

The man placed his hand on his shoulder. "You spent months by her side, never leaving." He spoke calmly. "You need to take care of yourself, too. Don't apologize for that."

"How do you not hate me?" Timothée asked with tears in his eyes. "Your daughter will never wake up because of me."

The man pulled Timothée into a hug not caring he was wet from the rain. "Because it was an accident, Tim."

"I should have been more careful." He cried, hugging the man back.

"It was an accident, Tim. Stop blaming yourself. It's been a year. You need to forgive yourself." He pulled away looking at Timothée . "Go see her." The man told Timothée.

Timothée looked at you in the bed, his heart in his throat. You looked like you were simply asleep. His feet felt heavier as he took the steps towards the bed.

"She's breathing completely on her own." The man spoke to Timothée. "That's a good sign." He watched as Timothée stood by the bed looking down at you, regret in his eyes. "You know, doctors know a lot, but they aren't God, Tim. You should have more faith. She's made it this far." The man told him. "Look, I have to go take care of some things and I'll be back later. Stay as long as you'd like." The man smiled at Timothée before walking out.

Alone in the room Timothée sat on the side of your bed, just watching you for the longest time. It had been four months since he'd been to the hospital to see you. Timothée spent the first eight months after the accident at your side. Barely leaving to eat or sleep. When it started taking its toll on his mental and physical health both his and your parents stepped in. They knew he needed help to cope with what had happened. He could never bring himself to go back to the hospital afterward. The guilt was too much.

Timothée leaned forward placing a hand on your cheek then resting his forehead on yours. "Please come back to me, Y/N." He said with a soft voice, tears rising in his eyes again.

Timothée sat there for the longest time just watching you, holding your hand, talking to you. A bird tapping its beak against the window, caught his attention. He smiled seeing the hummingbird remembering how much you loved them.

"Why are you wet?" Timothée's head snapped to the voice he'd just heard.
