Frozen Over

That morning I decided to push it all down

Deal with it later because I'm too busy

Now I can't get it back up

The water has frozen over

Whatever I had buried in the lake is gone

Until the ice melts

When is it going to melt?

I'm finally free

I can handle the weight of it all

Beneath the dark surface of the ice I can see it

Taunting me in the still waters

The water wasn't supposed to freeze this early

I need it back

Of all the things discarded and forgotten and in hopes of being forgotten

I need it back just this once

I'll never need it again

Once I'm done I'll throw it back into the lake

And go on with my day until it eventually slips my mind

A meaningless but all too meaningful one night stand

And I'll never need it again
