"What do you mean they aren't coming back?" I turned around and peered into the small kitchen of the condo.
"Lori, something happened and I can't let anything happen to you." I watched a figure back away from Lori. The look of defeat in her face made my stomach turn.
"What happened Wes? Do you even know how worried Clair and I have been for you guys? You shipped us out on a fucking boat and then suddenly two months later you show up to tell me that you and I are just, done?"
Lori was fuming by this point and Weston's face came into sight. "Weston?" I moved from behind the wall not believing that Weston was standing in the condo.
Lori and I arrived in Destin two months ago just before the fight went down against Gary and the rest of his crew. The boys had us leave thinking that we would see them in a few days. That was the plan. The plan was that they would come and get us.
no. matter. what
It has been two months since we have even heard from any of them. The only way that we knew they weren't all dead was thanks to Tanner.
The small condo that we were at belongs to a member of heat 8. Tanner hasn't said much to us about the situation and after months of crying and built up anger at the boys, Lori and I found ways to drown out the hurt that they have caused us.
The whole situation made no sense at all.
"Clair...hi" Weston avoided eye contact and uncomfortably rubbed the back of his neck. "Hi? Weston what the fuck happened? Where is Blake?"
I hadn't realized Blake's absence until I searched the kitchen with no luck in finding him. "He didn't come with me. I came because it felt too fucked up not to talk to you guys."
He rubbed his face and set his gun on the island before sitting on the cold granite. "Look, we know you both hate us and I wish more than anything that I could explain everything to you, but I can't put you in danger like that."
"Oh please, cut the shit. Do you guys honestly think that you haven't put us in danger already? You're going to tell me right now what the hell is going on and why non of you have a pair of fucking balls!" Lori slammed her fist down on the kitchen table and was staring Weston in the eyes.
Weston was now the one with the look of defeat in his eyes. "Lori, there is a lot of shit that you and Clair don't know and we made a pact to keep it that way. There was a lot of shit that has gone down and I'm putting my own life on the line being out here and taking to you both. So, if you could just list-"
This time I cut him off. "I'm sorry, but did you really expect to come out to Destin and give us a speech about keeping us safe and expect us to not be mad? You guys had us thinking you were all killed Weston! How would you feel if Lori and I suddenly disappeared and then two months later came back only to tell you that 'oh we can't say anything, but by the way, we aren't dead?' You guys are all fucked in the head I-"
"MARIO WAS SHOT."
I stopped mid sentence and felt the blood instantly drain from my face. I could feel my pulse quicken as I looked long and hard at Weston.
He seemed to shrink into his own skin and started biting the inside of his cheek. I knew he wasn't lying, but the words seemed make believe. They weren't real.
"I swear to god Weston if this is another one of your guys' little games," my voice cracked as I spoke. Mario was not dead.
"Clair...I'm sorry. I.. we, we couldn't-"
