As soon as we arrived at the camp, Arden jumped off the car. He didn't even wait for Emm to fully stop the car. Emm popped the trunk open, and we all took our bags. We were told to bring just the necessities. I bet Arden's bag was full of condoms and nothing else. Emm's must have books and all sorts of useful things. You know, the kind of things people we'll need but forgot to pack. I bet he got enough for the three of us. The breeze passed and I could smell it in the air. The testosterone.
This place was filled with "Alpha" males. Pfft. Big muscles, small brains, zero common sense, and starving for power. I remembered my dad's words.
"Reika, princess, you don't need that camp. You alone can kick any guy's ass." He laid a soft kiss on my forehead. "You and your brothers are one of a kind." His brown eyes looked at mine with so much love.
"Take that!" Arden threw my purse at me and I caught it in the air. "Don't space out!" Arden smirked, and I smiled back at him. He was an ass, but he never stopped checking on me or on Emm. Not for one minute. Just when you think he wasn't paying attention, he was. He always was. Not sure if it's because he's anxious all the time or is it because his mind always has him jumping from one thought to another, but he felt like he had to double-check everything.
We all began to walk towards the camp's entrance and I purposely slowed down, letting them walk ahead of me. Arden threw his arm over Emmett, and said something that made Emm smile. I love those two so much. I watched with a smile on my face how my brothers walked and laughed. They gained some distance, and I stopped walking.
After making sure they were not looking, I turned around and looked back. My eyes traveled around the parking lot, the open field, the woods near us, the tree lines in the distance, everywhere. I felt it again. I felt as if I was being watched. My eyes couldn't focus on one single thing.
—He must be near.
—I think so, too.
To my right, way past the field and in between the trees, I saw a glimmer of silver move fast. I concentrated all my senses on that area and took one step.
—Could that be?
"Boo!" Arden screamed in my ear and gave me a light push. I jumped out of my skin and screamed.
"MOTHERFUCKER!" My bag dropped to the ground, and I closed my fist. I was gonna fucking kill him. Arden dropped his bag as well and sprinted to the woods in an attempt to save his ass from me. I ran after him as he screamed, as if a psychopath was about to murder him. He wasn't wrong.
"What are you two doing? Guys, come on! Arden, Reika, cut it out!" We heard Emmett's screams become lower as we got further. I gained speed on him, and Arden shifted. He jumped and shifted in mid-air, landing as his humongous dark brown wolf.
—Fucking coward! Get him, boy!
I gave Jules the command, and we were sprinting after that fucker on all fours in a matter of seconds. Jules was big, but not as big as Huna, and his fur was pitch black. Among the three of us, Jules was the one that looked more like King. Kahuna looked more like Kendra but was all King inside and Emmet's wolf was all Kendra. We heard a howl behind us and we knew Emm had shifted too.
—Fucking stop!
That was Dom, short for Dominic. Emmett's wolf. That wolf demanded obedience and control, but he could go fuck himself. I had to kick Arden's ass first. This picture was all too familiar, Arden running from me, and Emmett running after us to make sure we wouldn't actually kill him.
We saw trees get blurry with the speed we were running to. Tree, after tree, after tree, and Kahuna's ass getting closer to us.
—You are dead meat!
