(Patrick's POV)
"You've got to be kidding me."
"What?"
"Look at all the bands who've already signed up," I said to Lexy who was standing over my shoulder. We were in the school's library on one of the computers. It was Friday, the last day to register.
She leaned forward and read the list. Bands like Paramore, My Chemical Romance, All Time Low, Sleeping With Sirens, Black Veil Brides, Bring Me The Horizon, The Cab, Cobra Starship, and twenty-nine others were already registered. One of those bands was Panic! At The Disco too, a band from our school.
"We're not going to win."
"You don't know that."
"What's the point in even registering?" I exited out of the window and spun around in the spinning chair so I was facing Lexy, "We're going to make a fool of ourselves if we enter."
"Move," She demanded, ignoring my comment and pushing me out of the chair. Before I could even object, she sat down and pulled up the window again, clicking register in the top right corner of the webpage.
"Lexy, stop..." I murmured.
She put her hand up in a shut up kind of manner and began typing in the information for our band.
"Lexy!" I snapped.
"Shh!"
"Lexy, I don't want to-"
"Done." She put her hands up as a message popped up on the screen:
Your information has been sent and you've been registered for the Battle Of The Bands! Can't wait to see you, Fall Out Boy, November 14th!
I crossed my arms over my chest and glared down at Lexy, who glanced up at me with a smile on her face. "You're going to thank me for this one day."
"Mhmm, sure I will," I retorted sarcastically before picking up my backpack and heading out of the library. Lexy logged off of the computer and grabbed her things, catching up with me.
"You guys are going to do great, I know it," She tried to instill confidence into me.
"I don't know, Lex..."
Who were we trying to kid? Fall Out Boy hadn't even been a band for a month yet. We didn't have a single finished song, so what were we to perform at the competition? I mean, yes, I had a few songs of my own that I'd written prior to the band, but I hadn't shared them with Pete, Joe, and Andy yet. With anyone for that matter.
"Come on, you can't go into the competition thinking like that. I've heard you guys play and you sounded pretty good."
I sighed, not replying to her.
"Hey, I'm having a scary movie marathon tonight and I was wondering if you maybe wanted to come over?" She changed subjects, "You can bring the guys if you want. It's just going to be me. Catherine's going out trick-or-treating with Brendon and my dad will be at work. At least, that's what she told my dad. But I overheard her on the phone talking to Brendon and she's going to some party. So I'll be all by myself and you know how I don't like being alone."
"Sure. I'll pass the word on," The corner of my lips curled upward into a smile. I could never stay mad at her for long.
"Great, see you tonight." We went to part ways when she added, "Oh, and be sure to dress up! You know, even though we're not going trick-or-treating. It's still Halloween. It's not every day we get to be someone we're not."
I chuckled, "Alright, Lex. See you tonight!"
*****
Lexy, Pete, Joe, Andy, and I were all sitting in the Jackson's dark basement, all crammed on the couch directly across from the TV that was the only source of light in the room. Lexy and Joe were clinging onto each other for dear life, jumping whenever something popped up on the screen. Pete was laughing at the two of them as he shoveled popcorn into his face. Andy was just sitting there, trying to watch the movie without the distraction of his friends. As for me, I was hiding behind a pillow that I used to block the screen whenever I thought something was too scary.
Upon Lexy's request, we all dressed up in Halloween costumes. The four of us dressed like characters from Super Mario Bros. I was Mario. Lexy was dressed up as Magenta from the Rocky Horror Picture Show.
The door to the basement opened and the stairs began to creak. A shadow was cast on the wall with a person with a gun in their hand. The five of us, including Pete, screamed in horror and huddled up on the couch.
The lights flicked on to reveal Brendon and Catherine, dressed up as a mobster and a flapper girl. The two burst into laughter as we relaxed, realizing it was just them.
"You guys are...are such pussies!" Brendon exclaimed through the laughter.
"Oh my god, did you see the looks on their faces?" Catherine questioned as she tried to catch her breath, but she couldn't because she was laughing so hard.
My cheeks grew red in embarrassment.
"What do you want, Catherine?" Lexy asked her sister, annoyed.
"Oh, the party we were at got shut down by the cops, so I invited everyone over to my place to keep the party going. I want you and your loser friends to stay down here for the night. And if I see you, I'll have Brendon come and shoot you with his gun." The two of the started laughing again. Lexy rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, sure, whatever, Cath," Lex mumbled.
Catherine calmed down and sighed, "Thanks, sis. You're the best."
"Yeah, yeah..."
And with that, the couple disappeared back upstairs, Brendon smacking Catherine on the ass along the way, causing her to yelp. She glared back at him before the two of them locked lips and continued up the stairs, turning the lights back off when they reached the top.
Lexy covered her face with her hands and groaned, "I swear to god, if I have to see them make out one more time, I'm going to throw up."
"I hate when Brendon hangs out with Catherine," Pete jeered, stuffing another handful of popcorn into his mouth, "She turns him into this...this person that I know he's not. This person that's not my best friend." Andy pat Pete on the shoulder. "You know, sometimes I wonder if things would be different if I said yes when he asked me..."
"Asked you what?" Andy inquired.
Pete shook his head, "Nothing. Hey, can we rewind it?" He motioned to the TV where the movie was still playing, "I want to know what's going on." Joe picked up the remote and did as Pete asked.
I glanced over at him and wondered what he was talking about when he said that he should've said yes to Brendon when he asked him to do. Asked him to do what?
