A pearly white sky. A bright light that shines on those who have done good in their mortal life. A white gate that opens for only those who are allowed in.
Y/N didn't feel alive. She could move her limbs just fine, but the movement was fuzzy, and her nerves were slightly numb.
Despite that, she still felt... something flowing through her.
"Let's see... Y/N L/N. Seventeen years of age, female... yeah that's her."
A lanky man who resembled an angel sat down at a desk next to the gate, reading a stack of papers, mumbling aloud. Y/N just stared at him and his strange attire, wondering how she ended up here.
"Now," the man looked up at Y/N, a blank stare, "It's time to see if you deserve to be let in."
Y/N gulped. What in the world was happening.
The man caught on to Y/N's confusion and chuckled.
"You must be wondering why you're here, huh?" he snickered.
Y/N nodded.
"Well, this might be shocking but..."
The man smirked in anticipation, as if he were about to blow Y/N's mind.
"You're dead."
Y/N stumbled backwards, taken aback by the two words. Half of what he said made sense to her, since it explained the heavenly appearance of her surroundings, but for the rest...
How did she die? She certainly didn't remember getting into any dangerous situation. In fact, she doesn't remember...
"Oh," she thought.
"Do you remember how you died?" the angel asked, both in an attempt to make small talk, and because he simply likes it when people remember their last breaths.
"No," Y/N replied, though it was more of a mutter.
"Ah, well that's normal. The brain doesn't really want you to remember that trauma. It was probably terrifying" he flipped his papers and continued his talk, "At least you have the rest of your life to remember. Too bad you died young."
"No, no..." Y/N's voice started to raise, "I mean, I don't remember anything."
The man stopped. He was clearly surprised.
"That's... weird. Usually this doesn't happen."
He chuckled in nervousness, frantically flipping through these papers. His searching for answers made him anxiously talk to himself.
"She didn't die from head trauma... although even if she did that still wouldn't make sense... m-maybe she's just lying... no why would someone mess with a literal angel."
Just then, another angel entered the scene. He seemed younger, and looked quite nervous. He wasted no time to quickly whisper something into the gate attendant's ear.
"Sir she's..." the new angel glanced at Y/N.
"...She's not dead."
The gate attendant slammed his papers on his desk in anger.
"What?! Is this a joke?"
"No, sir. It was a mistake."
"How do you mistake someone to be dead?!"
"Sorry, sir, it's just- Grim thought-"
"That stupid Grim Reaper. He's been doing this for, what? Thousands of years, and yet he can't tell when someone's-"
"Sir, he's getting old, be sympathetic."
"Sympathetic my a- butt. I mean my butt."
The angel sighed and pulled out a paper filled with a report.
"According to Grim, he thought she bled out from her injuries, but apparently her bleeding was stopped just before she died, allowing her body to produce more."
The gate attendant titled his head, "And how in the world did that happen?"
"Cauterization, sir."
Y/N stood still, listening in on their conversation, completely clueless. She hadn't even known how she died, and now she's learning that she technically didn't die?
It was all so confusing to her.
"Who would cauterize what they assume to be dead?"
"According to the report sir... it wasn't on purpose. Some elemental master accidentally did it. He wasn't aiming for her."
"Who?" Y/N thought.
The older angel huffed.
"Well, apparently Grim's stupid mistake also gave this girl memory loss. Certainly it caused some glitch in Mother Nature or something."
"So will we... send her back," the younger one gulped.
"I'm not sure. It wouldn't really feel right. She's already here."
"But... It feels ethically wrong."
"I'm sure bringing a living person to the afterlife 'by accident' is also ethically wrong."
The younger one huffed.
"Well, Miss Y/N L/N... would you like to go back?"
...
...
His question was answered with... well, nothing. Y/N simply stood there, blinking, as though her response would magically come out of her mouth.
"What'd be the purpose? I already lost all of my memories."
Y/N's frowned.
"But still... Someone saved my life... it'd be a waste to not take this chance."
Then, she smiled.
"Well?" the older angel groaned, bored waiting for a reply.
"My answer is... yes."
