01. When It All Began
It was a Tuesday. A day I thought would be the same as every other Tuesday. Oh how wrong I was.
It started off the same as all my normal days would; me being woken up by my baby brother jumping on my bed while singing "Reena! Reena! Get up! Get up!" and ending up with me tackling him into the covers with me as he laughed and screamed at me to let him go. It always seemed to be only the two of us since my mother was hospitalised and my father well....who knows where that bastard is. We have an older brother who moved as soon as he was able, his excuse being "I don't want to be a part of this disfunctional family anymore." and with that he packed his things and moved three towns over. He still managed to send money over for our mum but no way was that even close to enough. So as soon as I finished my second to last year of school I instantly went job hunting and scored two jobs; one during the day at a supermarket a couple of blocks away and one during the night at a bar that was located in town.
At first it was only to clean but I soon started getting the hang of making the drinks when Anita, the owner, had to get stuff at the back and the two workers were too busy with other customers so I soon became an unofficial official bartender there. Once I finished my second to last year of school, my job at the bar soon became permanent.
You'd think by working in a bar I would've been a bit more cautious and aware of my surroundings but back then I was naïve and foolish. If only I had realised that I was being watched all those nights ago.
On that Tuesday night I met a man. He was tall and pale. He was handsome no doubt with high cheekbones and a masculine jaw with a set of thin pink lips. But his eyes...were as black as his slick back hair. I knew as soon as our eyes met that he was a predator and I was his prey and yet I still didn't have my guard up. That night he came up to the bar and stood there. He stood there for almost an hour before finally ordering a drink. What was the drink he ordered? A Bloody Mary. I asked him if he was sure he wanted that drink and he replied;
"But with your blood."
I thought he was joking until I looked into his eyes. He was dead serious. Lucky for me Anita came over to me at that moment and told me my shift was over and that I could go home. I told her 'thank you' and that I'll see her tomorrow. Little did I know that that'd be the last time I ever saw her as my human self.
I look back to where the man was standing and noticed that his spot was empty. I quickly searched around the bar for him and couldn't find him anywhere. Shaking my head I quickly went round the back grabbed my bag and went out the back way. It was already dark with the streetlights already on. The bar was located on the outskirts of town with only a couple of blocks separating it from the station. A usual twenty minute walk turned to a ten minute walk as I knew all the shortcuts that led to the station but never had I taken them before when it was already dark so I picked up my pace as I headed through multiple alleyways. That was when I could feel something following me.
I looked behind me but all there was were shadows. Not even the lampposts at both ends of the alley could illuminate the outstretch of this alleyway.
As I kept staring I started to see the shadows moving until I realised it wasn't shadows, it was a figure. A tall figure. A familiar figure.
"You!" I exclaim as I take a step back. I watched as his face came into view with a smirk gracing his lips.
"Me." He mocked as he kept creeping closer.
At that moment I saw something glint in his mouth as his smirk grew wider. It was a tooth but it was long and pointed. I was scared. Scared for my life but instead of running like my mind was screaming at me to do, I stood there frozen on the spot. It wasn't because of the fear that ringing through me but because of his eyes, they held a promise. A promise that if I run...I would regret it. So I stood there and watched with dread washing over me as this...this predator came closer until he stopped with only one foot separating us. I never broke eye contact. Not even as he lifted his hand and placed it on my cheek.
"Do not cry Amare."
I was crying? Of course I was. I was terrified.
"What do you want from me?" I barely managed to whisper. He looked for a long hard second before he gave me a smile and placing both of his hands on my cheeks.
"For your beauty to last for eternity." He said before placing his lips on mine. His kiss was soft with him adding as little pressure as possible but I wasn't aware of it for long because no sooner than that my vision started to fade with darkness consuming me with his voice being the last thing I heard as he whispered three sweet coated words into my ear.
"Sleep well Amare."
