___________
Rob and I had been friends for a long time now; since the day I first saw his blue skin till now. He never seemed like the guy to hold a grudge or pray on someone's downfall but when he returned to school one day as something straight out of a broken video game claiming Gumball was his nemesis, I was all for it. Out of the two of us, I got us in to trouble while he got us out. We made the perfect duo, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy his company; or him in general. It's a shame I don't know how to convey any sort of affectionate but oh well!
"So Rob, what's on the agenda for today?" I asked, playfully nudging his arm.
"I heard Gumball and his girlfriend would be at the park today," he replied. "I was hoping we could get there before them and set up a few traps to ruin their date."
"Sounds evil," I reply, brewing up a mixture of different traps in my head. "I'll draw a few I have in mind and show 'em to you after school!"
"Sounds amazing, Y/n! I can't wait to see what you come up with!" Rob says, smirking evilly. "I'll be waiting."

By the end of the day, I had five pages full of different traps and what they did; both back and front of the pages. I trotted over to my locker and noticed a small note on the door. It read:
Hey Y/n, I can't meet up with you after school today. You'll have to meet me at the park instead; I'll be waiting!
-Rob
My face sort of deflated at this news; we always walked home together after school. I quickly fixed my face though and tried to maintain a positive attitude. It wasn't like he was abandoning me or anything, just a different meet up location! I packed my stuff away and began the trek to the park.

Once I finally arrived, I scanned the area for any signs of a geometrical, static boy. It was relatively easy to find Rob since school had just ended, and there weren't many people around yet. His back was towards me while he sat on a bench in front of a table, looking thoughtful as one arm rested on his chin. I snuck up behind him, and shouted: "BOO!"
"AGH!" Rob shrieked. He almost sounded like a girl, making me chuckle deviously.
"Gotcha!" I said, placing my hands on his shoulders and smirking.
"Hilarious," he sighed. "No fooling around! What'dya got for me?"
I pulled out the traps from my bag along with various supplies and tools.
"This, my friend," I began. "Penny's gonna be pissed after their date! I almost feel bad for her."
Rob smiled evilly while looking through the pages and various tools I had brought. I sat across from him on the table, placing my hands on my chin. He seemed so invested in my work that it made my heart do a little dance. I, on the other hand, was so invested in his expression that I didn't notice he had stopped his browsing to stare at me staring at him.
"Uhh hello?" Rob said, snapping his fingers in my face. "What's up with you?"
"Eh?" I replied, dumbfounded. "Oh uhh just seeing how you like my work is all! Sooo what'dya think?"
"These are perfect!" He replied. "Let's get to work."

The first trap we had narrowed down was glue mixed with honey slathered on the bench Gumball and Penny were supposed to sit; we made small figurines and dolls to occupy every other bench so they'd have no choice but to sit there. Naturally, we picked the bench with no shade. Next, we made plans to sabotage their meal by swapping out ingredients for things that looked similar, but obviously weren't. Finally, we would end their horrible date off by ruining their goodbye kiss; the plan would be flawless! I had considered every possibility and outcome to come up with the perfect concoction of evil traps. We spent the majority of the time working on our traps, hardly talking to each other; I didn't mind though since it allowed us to spend more time together and get closer. Every time we got close to some sort of emotional moment though, I would panic and make a sarcastic comment or joke. Today was different though; I hoped I would finally make a move towards Rob, and that hope kept me in good spirits. However for the most part, it was always him who made me feel the happiest.
"Alright Y/n, you ready?" Rob asked, a sly smile plastered on his face.
"You know it!" I said enthusiastically. Rob shushed me by placing a hand on my mouth, and he pointed to Gumball and Penny walking in through the entrance of the park.
We giggled evilly and quietly, sinking back behind the bush we chose to hide behind.

Once Penny and Gumball sat down on the bench, we knew the plan had commenced. They both made awkward faces and said something to each other about the bench feeling wet, to which Rob and I chuckled. They got up from their seats and tried to wipe the glue and honey off their backsides which only transferred to their hands. In the end, they laughed it off and walked over to the bathrooms to clean up.
"Alright so what now?" I asked, standing up from the bush.
"We could mess with the water?" Rob replied standing up as well.
"Eh it might be too late for that," I said, putting my hand up to my chin in a thoughtful manner. "I think we should just wait it out. Do you have the food replacement?"
"You know I do," he said, smirking again.
We walked over to where their bench was shifted through the objects in Penny's picnic basket. As I thought: sandwiches are their go-to date meal. Rob and I laughed as began stuffing handfuls of sand into their sandwiches; pretty clever of me if I do say so myself!
"Hey we should hide in that tree," Rob said, pointing to a nearby oak. "We'd get a better view than in a bush."
"What? What if we fall?" I replied. "It's better to play it safe, or we might get caught."
"Well then I'll hide in the tree! At least you won't get caught if I do fall," he said, already running towards the tree before I could get another word in. And me, not wanting to leave him alone, followed. He helped me up the tree right as the couple walked out of the bathroom.
"I don't like you," I joked. Rob simply smiled in response.
A few minuted passed until the two unpacked their basket and took a bite of their food. Their faces seemed disgusted as they crunched the sand that was wedged in between their sandwiches; especially Gumball's. I giggled, placing a hand over my mouth to muffle the sound.
"He looks like he's trying so hard to like Penny's sandwiches," I whispered to Rob.
"Yeah, you really put the 'sand' in sandwich," he whispered back, snorting.
I pressed my hand on my mouth a bit more to stop myself from laughing, tears pricking my eyes from holding it in. I closed my eyes and shook my head a little to shake away the tears of laughter and got dizzy for a second. I used my hands to wipe away the rest of the tears. My closed eyes mixed with the dizziness disoriented me for a second and when I opened my eyes again, I had finally remembered I was hiding in a tree. Unfortunately, by the time I remembered, I was already leaning off the tree and falling to my doom. I yelped out of shock and braced myself for impact with the ground, closing my eyes and covering my face with my arms.
"Y/n!" Rob whisper-shouted, leaning over to grab my ankle. My weight was too much for him however, and we both ended up falling from the tree.
"...Stick," I mumbled, mocking his weak strength and thin body shape.
"Y/n?" Penny asked, staring at us in surprise.
"Rob!" Gumball said simultaneously, glaring at my companion.
We sat up for a second, rubbing parts of our bodies that took the most damage from the fall. It took us a while to come back to our senses. When we finally did, I looked over at Penny who was already in her Medusa-like form, glaring at us.
"I'm gonna give you five seconds to run," she hissed.
Without another word, I yanked Rob up from the ground and started running as fast as possible to exit the park before Penny's anger got worst. We ran through the streets and sidewalks, alleyways and buildings, before we finally stopped to catch our breath. We hid in the closet of a nearby store to make sure we weren't followed; or found if we were. It took a couple minutes for the adrenaline to wear off, and when it finally did we just chuckled and sighed with relief.
"That... was a close one," Rob said, looking relieved.
"I told you we should've stayed in the bushes," I said.
"You could've!" he said. "Why didn't you?"
"Cause! You're my friend! My amigo! My buddy! Pal! 'Ol chum!" I smiled, cringing slightly at the poor choice of words; and fact that we would probably only ever be friends. "You're my partner in crime."
Rob smiled his sweet smile and looked away for a second, before turning back to make eye contact with me.
"What kind of friend am I? To you?" he said.
I was slightly put off by the question and replied, "Uhh... my best friend? Best friend forever...? Best friend... in crime??"
"Hmm I see," was all he said, placing a hand on his face where his cheek would be. "What a shame! I was kinda hoping for boyfriend but that works too."
He turned to leave the closet, leaving me standing dumbfounded for a second. Do my ears deceive me or did he just say "boyfriend"?
"W-wait up!" I said, exiting the closet as well to catch up with him. "Wha'dya mean 'boyfriend'?"
He simply smirked at me. I wanted to say something snarky but he stopped, making me stop too. Without another word, he gently and quickly kissed by forehead, turning away afterwards out of embarrassment.
"Y'know, sometimes you make it obvious when you have crushes," he said.
