"Brooklyn! We have to go! The plane leaves in an hour. If you want a window seat, you should have already been there" I hear my mom yell.

I walk down the stairs with my suitcases, handing the large bags to my mother. I look over to see Rebecca sitting at the kitchen table with tears streaming down her cheek. "Rebecca..." I whisper while placing my hand on her shoulder.

She shakes her head, "No. Don't start. I'm going to cry, but don't worry..I'm extremely happy for you. It's just hard to see you go."

I give her a small sympathetic smile, "I know. I get it, but I'll be back Christmas break, and then you can come back to my dorm and stay with me for a week while you're on break. I promise we will Facetime every single night before I go to bed."

She stands up, looking up at me, wiping the tears off of her lower cheek, "Brooklyn.. you're going to go so far. The school is already so crazy about your work, and I'm so proud of you. Please don't lose yourself out there. You're so talented." She pulls me into a hug after I tilt my head in a huge smile.

"I would never change. Los Angeles won't change me. I promise."

She nods, sniffling, "I love -"

"Brooklyn..we have to go" My mom cuts Rebecca and I off after she walked back inside from loading up the car. I nod, kissing Rebecca on her head, pulling myself away from her.

"I love you" blowing a kiss to her shortly after. She pretends to catch it like she used to when she was a little girl. I giggle to myself and jump into the car.

My mom turns the music down low after she gets into the car and pulls away. The silence is too loud, and I know she is nervous. She has never liked the idea of me going to school in Los Angeles without being in Los Angeles. I've always dreamed of living in Los Angeles and making it big. Coming from a small town in Ohio, it's going to be a drastic change to be moving to a giant city across the country. I understand why my mom is afraid. I'm her first born, and she's never left the state, so how could she be comfortable with me leaving? AMDA, a theater arts school has been interested in me since I sent them my songs freshman year. I have kept in touch with several students who attend the school, and they love it. I can't imagine myself anywhere else but Los Angeles. I have no other options.

Breaking the silence "You have to be careful. I packed your bags with pepper spray, I left you enough money to buy a small used car so please get one as soon as you can. I really don't want you taking the bus out there. You don't know who gets on the bus. If you're going to walk around the city, please be in a group, there are many murders out - "

"Mom..", I cut her off. "You have to realize that I'm going to have to do this alone. I see where you're coming from but this isn't going to be the first time I am going to be on my own. You have to trust me. I will be okay. You know you're going to be the first person I call if something bad happens. Believe me.. I'll be alright."

She pulls up to the drop off at the airport, parking the car. I notice she is having trouble looking at me. I reach for her hand, kissing it, "I guess this is it..", I say under my breath.
