"Hi," she said with a bright smile. Every time I saw this girl she was like a ray of sunshine. Her clothes were always Pinterest-worthy. She always said she wanted to design clothes for the rest of her life and I think she will. Valarie Odette Laurier is the prettiest girl that I've ever seen, no, that I will ever see.

"Hello," Why did I say it like that? Please say something.

            "How was your weekend?"

"Uh it was- it was ok. How was yours?"

"It was good! I finished my book which is kind of sad but it was really good so I'm not complaining... This is the part where you ask what it was about!" she exclaimed with a slight giggle in her voice.

"Uh what was the book about?" I asked her with as much enthusiasm as I could. I needed her to know I was interested.

"Ok, so it was a romance, enemies to lovers. This girl was obsessed with winning, the most competitive person ever, but then, she met her match. The new kid was just as competitive as her, he would do anything to win. They were constantly up against each other in almost anything they did. Did I mention, that they were both dating someone? After a few months both their relationships crashed and burned. Their S/Os started dating each other! Plot twist I know! Of course, they cannot lose this break up so they decide to date each other, a fake date. This leads to them falling in love with each other. They go on a proper date and it is the most romantic date either had been on. It's similar to To All The Boys I've Loved Before but it's more competitive and more enemies." she passionately explained

"Woah." That was so much to comprehend I needed a minute to think of a response that would make me sound smart. "That's one crazy book. It's really sweet though! Do you usually read enemies to lovers books?"

"Not always. I read a ton of romance books, all with different tropes." she replied "My favorite trope would have to be the soulmates trope. That's the trope I would most want to experience. Imagine... after years of searching you finally find your soulmate and you both just click. You two fit as you have just completed a puzzle after ages of frustration. What about you"

"I don't read a lot but that soulmate thing sounds amazing. I wish I had something like that. Someone who would always be there for me. A person who would just get me, you know?" I sound so desperate. It seemed to work somehow. The first-period bell goes and we have to run off to class.

"Hey, are you busy after school, because I was thinking, if you aren't doing anything, maybe you would wanna come over, maybe?" Finally! I'm not sure if she's asking me out but she sounded nervous, I'm not even sure if she likes me but I want to go so badly, I almost scream yes. "Ok great! Meet me here after school? I catch the bus home so you can come with me!"

I wait anxiously for the day to end, rehearsing every possible topic of conversation to be prepared for after school. I'm stressing about my outfit and my hair. The last thing on my mind is schoolwork. My mind wanders the whole day. Finally, lunch. Finally, I can see her. I smile and wave as she walks by and I get lost in her eyes.

"Oh my goodness. What girl is it now." I hear Carrie say in the background. "No way. Valerie? you can't be falling for her again! you know she's so not into you! Hello! Earth to Blair? Ugh not again"

"I know, I know, she's probably not into girls but get this! she invited me over after school, that's gotta mean something?" I've had a crush on Valerie since middle school so I'm hanging onto this and taking it as a sign that she's also irrevocably in love with me. Carrie just stares at me in disbelief that I could be so stupid as to fall for a straight girl, again. "Oh come on, let me believe that I'll have some epic high school romance, like those cheesy rom-coms I love so much but gayer."
