I was being dragged, pushed and on occasion even carried through grand halls. Somewhere behind me was Luke, being presumably equally manhandled. Each time I attempted to look back at him, someone's large hand slapped my head back straight. We were travelling in a herd, a loud, dirty herd smelling like blood and body odour. I had a feeling we were nearing a really gruesome end to our "rescue mission" once we reached Eros.It really was embarrassing.
"Where do you think he is?" one of the men grumbled. "He moves like a damn cat."
"There are endless shady corners in this old castle," the man gripping my arm answered, looking around the tall ceilings of the fifth hallway we'd entered. "But what does it matter? All we need to draw him out is this little lady right here."
I sucked in a sharp breath as he gripped my arm tighter but immediately regretted it when hearing the small chorus of laughs.
"I don't think you know what you're doing!"
"Really?" Another heap of laughter. "Do tell, because to me it seems like we've got a handle on things."
"I'm just saying, you're in trouble." I sounded more confident than I felt. "We're more capable than we seem."
"Cindy, shut up," Luke said from somewhere behind me, followed by a heavy groan.
"This is all going according to plan."
I wasn't sure what I was trying to do. Scare them? Calm myself? Stall for time? Whatever it was, I couldn't claim that it was working. The men were mocking us, Luke seemed in more rough shape with each passing second, and I couldn't help but realize that I was the most valuable to these men dead.
Something crashed behind us. Loudly. At first I thought something had exploded, but as we all collectively turned toward the sound, a large sculpture laid crushed on the ground.
Someone screamed, a man at the edge of our group - and then another.
My arm was somehow gripped even tighter, but I couldn't for the life of me see what the threat was.
"Stay together, men! Focus!" His voice was loud, right by my ear. Hinting of fear.
Another man screamed.
I found myself nearly clutching to my captor.
Someone - something - shot by. It was fast and dark and made the whole group stumble back in disarray. A loud growl echoed from all ways around. A familiar presence were before us.
"Eros."
He stood in the middle of the hallway, his arms by his sides, his hands opening and closing with contained power. I wasn't sure he could see me through the wall of men in front of us. The lowly light made his face become cast in shadow. He looked ominous but I had to admit I'd hoped he would've had backup.
"You're going to die here, Creed, punished for your betrayal to the crown and the kingdom."
I looked up at the man holding me. It made sense - he was Creed.
"You have a funny view on betrayal, Eros. We are simply enforcing change. It's time for a paradigm shift."
"You're all alone. All other rebels have been chased from the castle - and now you'll meet the same fate, despite your fancy words."
"Well, I'm not the one to keep a man from avenging his father but I might have to burst this bubble."
The men dispersed.
My eyes met yellow ones - angry ones.
"Hi, Eros... I can explain."
