The Loss Princess

I was staring out the window in deep thought as the lady's mother walked into the kitchen.

"Oh you must be that handsome man's wife. I am Holly" The older lady said she greeted me with a warm hug.

"Indeed. I am Charlotte." It felt weird to say my real name for the first time in years of using my middle name. However it felt amazing as if I didn't have to hide my identity.

"Caroline! You are going to burn the cake!" She screamed as she pushed her daughter out of the way.

"Calm down. I was about to check on them." She said as she walked out of the kitchen to tell the men supper was ready.

"Bailey! Adeline!" She yelled for the girls to come down and help us with putting out the stuff on the large table.

A few moments later.

We all gathered in the dining room and said a prayer before we all started to devour the food like animals.

"You look so familiar." Holly said as she began to stare at my face.

Thankfully her husband Jeff cut in and switched the conversation. To hunting games. The men enjoyed their little talk as us women talked and asked ourselves.

However Holly refused to take her eyes off of me the entire time. I was interrupted from telling them about my time in our house by the beach when Holly grabbed my arm.

"Where are you taking her mother?" Caroline asked as her mother dragged me into the small library.

"Now where is it?" She said as she let go of my arm and began to look through some of the books on the shelf.

"Here it is!" She shouted as she ran over to where I stood. I looked down at the book she held and saw a portrait of my family and I that was drawn a year before their deaths.

I was in shock that she recognized me. Most people in our territory only seem to know of us. Not exactly what we look like.

I began trying to convince her that I am not that girl in the drawing. However she was not letting go of the conversation until I confessed.

She dragged us back into the kitchen where everyone waited for us to return.

"Johnny and Jeff look at this and tell me who this is." She spat as she looked over her shoulder at my horrified face.

Jamie had a few glasses too many as they waited for food to be ready. So his brain hasn't fully caught up to the severity of the situation at hand.

"It looks like the lost Princess." Jeff said as Johnny looked up towards where I stood horrified at his answer.

"I believe it is Charlotte." Johnny answered as his wife stole the book to see for herself.

"Lost princess?" I asked as my expression turned into confusion.

"Here, sit down and we will tell you the story of the lost princess." Holly said as she led me back to my seat.

"The story of the lost princess or futur alpha to our pack was about to be crowned. When King Franklyn decided he wanted her to die as well as her family." She paused as she told the girls to go play in another room.

"Then King Franklyn took her and had her locked away in a castle. Or has killed her. Some days he claims he has her locked away or has already killed her." Holly said as she wiped a tear from her eyes.

"I believe the only one that can answer if she is dead or alive is the person we are all looking at." Caroline said as they began to lean towards me.

"Okay I believe it's time to go." Jamie said, finally coming to his senses. However I didn't want to be saved. I want my people to know the truth.

I let a deep breath escape my soft lips before telling them the real story. "So you are the lost princess!"  Holly said in excitement.

"Indeed. However I must get the trust of my people back and destroy Franklyn." I said I threw my teeth.

"If you don't mind me asking. How are you going to win them back?" Holly asked as she took a sip of her glass of wine.

"I haven't truly thought about that part yet." I admitted as I glanced out the window to see some armed men with torches.

"Hunny takes them to the secret room. They have come to do an expectation." Jeff said as he saw the men walking pass.

Holly took mine and Jamie's hand as I held on to Adeline and led us to the living area of the home.

"Here hind in here." Holly said as she pulled on a book to show a small cover. We carefully got in as she closed the way out.

I didn't have time to think before I heard the armed warriors banging on the front door.

"Hello." I heard Jeff and Holly greet the men.

I listened as they stepped into the home. I believe I counted 4 men entering.

I overheard one of the men mention our names and my heart dropped in my chest. "Is the king really sending people out to find you?" My inner wolf said.

Once they were out the house Holly opened the door to free us. I went first with a scared Adeline in my arms weeping.

"Why didn't you give us up to them? I heard them off a hefty amount of money." Jamie said as he crawled out of the small room.

"We only acknowledge our true Queen, not that king. We trust Alpha Charlotte with our lives." Holly said as I calmed Adeline.

"Thank you. I will not let you down as Alpha of this pack." I said as she nodded.

"Now you all could use some rest. Here I have made you a plate to take with you." She said as she handed me a plate.

"Thank you." I said as I embraced her in a warm hug.

"We shall talk more about how to win over the people tomorrow. But I believe it is past this little one's bedtime." She teased as we walked out of the home.
