Friday
School is out, and as always Winwin is at her classroom door waiting for Hyeon.
"Where's Chenle, how is he going to get home if you are not with him? I'm not saying I don't want you to come with me I was just a little worried." He says as she walks over to him.
"I had my uncle pick him up."
"Ah I see."
They two walk over to the coffee shop. The walk is silent but it's very comfortable, the two also just don't know what to say.
They walk into the shop looking at the menu.
"Do you know what you want?" He says turning over to her.
"Yup! I'm going to get a caramel macchiato with extra caramel." She says walking over to cashier. But Winwin gets in front of her so he could also pay for her's.
"Hi, can I get a caramel macchiato with extra caramel, and another one with just normal caramel." He say bringing out his wallet.
"Hey, I can pay for myself it's okay-" She protests.
"Nope, you will not, I asked you to come here , I'll pay."
"Fine, but I'll pay you back." She say pouting.
"No it's okay, I won't take your money." He say handing his money over to the cashier.
"Yah! Why not."
"Here how about this, next time you'll pay." He says giving her a head pat.
Next time?
She thinks feeling this unusual feeling in her stomach, what people would call 'butterflies' but she's never experienced it before so she doesn't understand it.
-
The two sit down quietly, not knowing what to say, so Winwin speaks up.
"You seem to really enjoy cooking for your family and other people, tell me about them." Winwin says resting his head on his knuckles from folding his hands to do it.
"Well my brother is 13, so two years younger than me, he really likes dancing, and playing soccer. His favorite number is 7." She starts laughing hard.
"He's also deathly afraid of cockroaches, one time Chenle asked to borrow his phone, and he set his lock screen to a photo of a cockroach and he screamed and threw his phone so hard it broke the screen. Ever since then he doesn't trust Chenle with his phone unless he can watch what he's doing."
Her whole face smiles without even smiling when she talks about him, cute.
"You cook so well, your mom must also be a great cook, when did she start teaching you how to cook?" Winwin asks immediately regretting seeing her reaction. He whole face drops, her skin going pale, and you can see her jaw pop out from the sides of her face showing how hard she's clenching her jaw. She gulps hard the tears at the back of her throat, she never lets herself think of her, it makes her feel weak and guilty.
"She died I was 3 when she died, I think that's what made me a good cook, since she wasn't there to cook, I ended up learning how to cook so I could feed my family." She says picking at the side of her thumb with her index finger.
"Oh, I'm sorry, that was quite out of pocket that's my fault." He says looking down.
"Silly boy, you wouldn't have known no need to be sorry." She says sitting up and reaching over to pat Winwin's head making him feel flustered.
"O-oh, okay, sorry." He says looking up at her who was already looking at him.
It's confusing, she also feels genuine about this as like she is when she's being cold. She really is interesting.
"Stop saying sorry you didn't do anything wrong."
"Oh yah sor-"
"Oppa-" She says with a 'come on' face quickly realizing what she says plopping back to her seat looking out the window while she rubs the back of her neck.
Shit why did I say that, it just rolled of my tongue I wasn't even thinking, that was so stupid.
She's blushing? Whoa, maybe she's warming up to me?
"I, uh sorry I didn't-" She says still looking out at the window with her light pink cheeks.
"It's okay, I like you calling me oppa if you're okay with it I would like it if you called me it more often." He says smiling with a breathy laugh slightly looking in the other direction that Hyeon is looking in covering his mouth with the back of his hand.
"These are you drinks, Caramel Macciato with extra caramel?" She says asking the two who are still trying to move on from the last sentences, but collect themselves quickly.
"Me"
"Her"
The two say at the same time. Then go right back to how they were before feeling even more embarrassed.
The waitress leaves that table leaving them alone, walking next to her co-worker, laying her head on her. "Ah, young love." She says looking at the two.
"So what about your family?" Hyeon says facing Winwin but looking down at the middle of the table.
"Uhh? It's kind of complicated." He says scratching the bottom of the back of his head with his right hand.
"Oh I see, we don't have to talk about it." She says smiling at him.
"No it's okay you opened up too. My parents are separated, my dad is a big business man, him and my mom rarely interacted, and around when I was 8. My mom found out my dad was cheating on her with his secretary. Since then I've gone back and forth to my mom's house and my dad's house, but if I could choose I would live away from them. They tend to push their ideals on me and punish me if I don't do as I say." He says looking down at his shaky hands that match his shaky voice. Hyeon doesn't say anything she just holds hands, bringing them together and staking them up, putting her right hand on top of his right hand that is on top of his left, putting her left under his. She looks up at him with sad eyes knowing exactly how it feels.
"No one should ever have to go through that, you are so strong for going through it."
