~Chapter One~
Severus groaned and blinked open his eyes. It didn't take him long to adjust to the rather dim lighting but it did take his waking brain a second to compute the situation.
'Wait a minute... I don't recognize that ceiling. Or the feel of this bed. ... Wasn't I dying?' Thought the bleary vampire. He tried to move but found a rather heavy weight across his stomach. It was much too large and thick to be an arm and Severus grunted as he moved his head to look down at what was on him."Holy shit-" He breathed out, freezing in place at the view of the scales of a massive snake tail on his stomach. He didn't recognize it as Nagini and he really hoped it wasn't, but he had to check. So he carefully slid a hand free of the black silk sheets and rested it on the snake tail. Grabbing it lightly, he moved it enough to see and realize that the top patterning of the scales aren't the same as Nagini's.
A groan from his right cut off Severus's sigh of relief. He hasn't realized he was sharing a bed with someone, so he turned to look at who it was. And then his obsidian eyes locked with slit green eyes. A very specific shade of green eyes. Ones that he'd know anywhere."Harry?" Snape blinked. Then blinked again. Then studied his mate's face. The legal adult looked relatively fine, of course truly he was very hot, but the faded scar on Harry's forehead caught his attention. Harry managed to cut him off again.
"Glad to see you 'wake, Sev'rus." Harry mumbled, sleepily rubbing his eyes. He soon blinked a little back into focus and continued."You've been out of it for a while. I've been hiding us for your recovery since the Battle of Hogwarts. It's about June 28th now, so a good month and a half healing coma for you." Harry grunted as he pushed himself onto his elbows, the tail on Severus's stomach moving with Harry's actions. The vampire looked startled at that and followed the tail to the lower half of his mate and up to his face. His mouth dropped open.
"You're... a naga?? How?!" Severus whispered, wide eyed. Harry laughed."No, a lamia. I'm not aquatic or have enough torso scales to be a naga. It was bewildering to me too when my inheritance came in. I did the whole blood family tree thing with the Goblins, after I paid them a butt ton for breaking into and out of Gringotts, and apparently this isn't from any of my actual family. This is from the basilisk venom from 2nd year and my previous magical connection with Voldy. It's all so convoluted but basically, snakey influence changed the inheritance I would have gotten from my Potter side into a lamia." Harry explained, looking relatively smug at Severus's gobsmacked expression.
"Wha- but- family inheritances??" Snape was so confused. He never heard of this before. He knew he got his vampirism from his mother but he had no idea it could be further than that."Yeah. All pureblood families have them. Their blood is a long line of descendants from relationships with ancient creatures. Malfoys are veelas, and I'm pretty sure nobody even realizes that. The Lovegoods are high elven. The Weasleys are fire spirits, and a bloodline curse makes all Prewitt twins kitsunes. The Blacks were ancient werewolves, which are wildly different than the weres we got now. The Zabinis are a rather specific type of Japanese spider yokai. Um... Right, mine. My mother was actually from a line of squibs that branched from the 3rd generation of Irish Weasley immigrants because of a halfblood. So a fire spirit. My father was actually from three ancient families, the Potters, Peverells, and Gryffindors. The Peverells, somehow with the help of their patron deity Death, managed to bang some Reapers and I got that inheritance. The Gryffindors married into the Peverell and they had dragon inheritances. The only reason Godric used a lion for Hogwarts is because that was his animagus. And those Peverell-Gryffindor descendants quickly married into the Potter line in an effort to avoid both being hunted and basically the same reason I hate the Daily Prophet. The Potter line somehow managed getting a manticore inheritance, but I don't want to guess how on that one." Harry again explained, but Severus didn't respond. He was speechless and practically thrown across the Isles with how far stunned he was.
"Would you like to know about your vampire inheritance, Severus?" Harry quietly asked after a bit of silence. He was nicely letting his mate absorb, after all.
"I- Y-yes. Yes, if you know it." Severus asked just as quietly, if not more so. Harry nodded and laid back down because he was tired of holding himself up. He continued to face his mate, however."The Prince's are a direct descendant line from the only vampires that can breed. A species commonly called living vampires, but truthfully, they're the only true vampire beings. All the new vampires, these ones that die in the sun and have bloodlust, are just incomplete feeds. The Transylvanian house of Alilović are actually actively attempting to kill off their incomplete feeds that have come back as undead. The Princes, as a direct line from them, are legitimately considered the princes of the Vampire kingdom. Your many times great grandfather of whom was the first vampire, would be very happy to know that his direct line hasn't died off." Harry smiled kindly and very slowly inched closer to snuggle his mate. Severus just laid there in Harry's arms in shocked silence. Today was too much. Severus is going back to bed.
And then the vampire passed out. Harry chuckled at his mate but did not move, happy to bask in the warmth of the nearby fire in the hearth and his beloved mate.
