Me, Myself, and I.

BLESS 5SOS FOR ADDING LIVE DRUMS TO POP SONGS. BLESS. ✨🙏

They are like a gust of fresh air in the smoggy city of pop. They are absolutely rockin' the new sound, and honestly? I'm all in for it!

(Even though... They sound a bit like programmed drums, I decided to believe they're live drums, because, there's no way Ashton's letting that happen, right?)

So anyways here are the main things that happened:

Short guitar intro, backing vocals and a bass comes in at 0:28 -ish, drums come in at 0:50, the more layered guitars come in at about 1:12

So, here's the thing:

The reason why I can clearly see that 5SOS are presenting a pop sound with this album, is that firstly, it doesn't have long intro.

It was probably only one to two bars, some guitar to ease the song into the main course, and omigod, the vocals itself when they came in, if the intro was a treat, the vocals are a whole meal

It's everything.

People can really hear Luke's vocal range in this song, it's crazy wide and he probably hasn't reached his capacity yet?!

I tried to sing it... I couldn't get as deep as him, and I couldn't get as high up as him... It sounded terrible haha. :,c

Back to the guitar, and of course, they have songs that went slap bang to the point as an intro, for example old me, (love that SO much) Youngblood, now I look at it, some big hits of their career. But my point is that the whole "no instrumental intro" thing is more prominent in pop songs, as I come to realise.

Secondly, the lyrics repeat themselves more times than before.

Like, they didn't even make any changes for the second verse. The lyrics for reference.

[Verse: Luke Hemmings]
I Guess, I Guess I Got What I Wanted
I Never Knew What I Needed, Leave It
Up To Me To Fu*k It Up Without A Good Reason
I Know, I Know That It Was My Own Fault
I Never Picked Up That Phone Call, Oh! Lord
All These Broke Hearts But Mine's The One Bleeding

[Chorus: Luke Hemmings]
Bullshit, I Feed Myself
Me And My Selfish Appetite
I Did Not Need Your Help
Now It's Just Me, Myself And I

[Post-Chorus: Luke Hemmings]
La-La-Lie, La-La-Lie, La-Lie-Lie
Now It's Just Me, Myself And I
La-La-Lie, La-La-Lie, La-Lie-Lie
Now It's Just Me, Myself And I

[Verse: Luke Hemmings]
Guess, I Guess I Got What I Wanted
I Never Knew What I Needed, Leave It
Up To Me To Fu*k It Up Without A Good Reason
I Know, I Know That It Was My Own Fault
I Never Picked Up That Phone Call, Oh! Lord
All These Broke Hearts But Mine's The One Bleeding
