Kilo Reid
month 1. day 3.

By 6:30 AM, you've got to be up and out your cell.

Breakfast is at 7 AM, and then you head to your designated work area straight after.

Lunch is at noon, work ends at 3 PM, then we have the remainder of the day to ourselves.

Supper starts around 5 PM.

We return to our blocks by 8 PM, lights out is strictly at 11 PM and the only thing I'm grateful for...

Did you know proper sleep is healing for the body and mind? I never truly believed it until I got here.

I haven't ever appreciated sleep as bad as I do now.

Getting up early is hard though, it's like being a teenager in high school all over again.

Another thing I'm grateful for is the library.

I just come in here, find a book, and forget about everything going on around me.

I was sat inside at one of the tables, reading a book, when I felt a tap on my shoulder.

It wasn't a rough tap so I knew it was an acquaintance and looked up to see Nat.

"What's up?" I smiled without showing teeth as she sat beside me at the table.

"What's up? How you feeling?" She asked.

"About 58% healed." I answered her truthfully, "Seems like all I need is rest."

"I'm so glad to hear that. It's pretty packed in here today..." Nat said.

I hadn't realized it but I looked up to see there was a good amount of people. "I wonder why?"

"Well, I can tell you why. Everyone in here is either studying to get their GED, or trying to find out ways to lessen their sentence."

"Oh..." I said in awe. It made complete sense.

She then let out a sigh.

"I just wish we wasn't so divided. Especially this past year, it's been so bad. The worst right now is interracial fights, which you've already experienced... I hate it." Nat frowned.

"I mean... there ain't much we can do about it, is there?" I said in response.

A unreadable look flashed across Natalia's face before she let out a small laugh. "Yeah, you're right..."
