Earth-X
Kara stared out of the window, seeing nothing. Her vision was blurry with tears. Any moment now. Any moment—
"Hey," Mon-El said cheerfully as the door swung shut behind him. He frowned, noticing her expression, and walked over. He reached up to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear.
"You okay?"
"I'm fine," she whispered, almost silently. "Just stressed." She reached into her pocket, fingers curling around what was hidden inside. Any moment now.
Wordlessly, her boyfriend pulled her into a hug. She took a shaky breath, inhaling his scent. Now.
Kara yanked the lead dagger from her pocket and jabbed it into his gut with a sob. Gently, she lowered him to the ground. His eyes were wide from shock, blood staining his shirt. He was the one bleeding, but she felt a stabbing pain that she knew would never go away.
"I'm sorry," Kara choked out, thumb brushing across his cheek. "I love you." His eyes fluttered shut, and something inside of her broke.
A slow clapping sound startled her, and she spun around to see him standing there, observing with an expression of cold satisfaction.
"Well done," Oliver said, striding over to where she crouched next to Mon-El's body. "I knew you had it in you."
"I did what you asked," Kara spat. "Now do what you promised. Spare the heroes on Earth-1!"
"Of course," he said, his voice as smooth and sickly sweet as molasses. "Did you think I wouldn't keep my word?"
Kara glared at him.
Oliver clapped twice, and his Nazi goons strode into the room and stood at attention. He nodded at the body. "Take him to the incinerator."
"No!" Kara held her arms out protectively, blocking the Nazis from taking him. She reached up and unclasped her necklace, its blue pendant swinging gently. She tilted Mon-El's head up and fastened it around his neck. Forgive me, my love.
"Put him in my pod. I'll fly it into the sun myself." Kara gently picked him up and jumped into the sky, determined to do one thing right on this terrible day.
Once she was gone, Oliver beckoned to his guards. Foolish girl. She'd done just what he wanted.
They brought him a silver container, stumbling under its obvious weight. One of his men tilted the lid back, and a rare smile spread over Oliver's face.
"I have a feeling we're going to be very good friends..." he said softly, observing the shiny red stone inside. "Overgirl."
Earth-40
"Okay, what's with the look?"
Kara frowned as she fell in step with her best friend on their way to a nearby coffee shop.
"What look?"
Mon-El pointed at her face, twirling his finger. "That look. You've got a new crush."
Kara tried to deflect, though she was fighting back a smile. "Have not!"
"Uh-huh," he grunted, unimpressed. A smirk played across his (very cute) face. "Just tell me who it is. You haven't fallen for another straight girl, have you?"
Kara groaned. "Will you let that go? It was one time! And I swear she was flirting with me."
Mon-El just rolled his eyes with a laugh, and Kara's stomach fluttered at the sound. She bit her lip shyly.
"Okay, maybe I've got my eye on someone. A guy, this time."
"You gonna tell me who it is?" He bumped her shoulder with his. "Huh?"
