-Reader POV-

The world hasn't been this bleak in a long time. I only spend my time taking care of my small apartment, going on small walks or working my boring job. Right now there doesn't seem like there's much to make me happy at all, I've moved away from my family due to being unhappy with how they treat me and I don't have many people I'd consider friends. I'm not alone, I have coworkers and people I can meet up with regularly, but I wouldn't consider them friends.

Being stuck in this same routine has gotten me more and more depressed. Not even my favorite food or music cheers me up properly anymore. But thankfully I live in a town with help for that but I've been scared of calling them for awhile. I don't want to be a burden and make my problem other peoples problem, but this seems to be the last chance I have to happiness..

I have to call the Smiling Friends.

...beep beep...

...

"Hello, You've reached HQ of the Smiling Friends! How can we assist you today?" An older sounding male answers the phone, a bit out of breath?..

"oh! thank you for picking up so fast. I believe I've been having some depressive episodes lately and haven't been able to smile or be happy about anything, your companies service would definitely be of help" I respond.

"I'll send my best men over ASAP now don't you worry!.. if I could just have your address...."

"(insert address here)"

"Sounds splendid! They'll be right over!" He responds before hanging up the phone so all that followed was a low 'beep..beep..' just like before.

Just having the reassurance that help was on its way made me a bit relieved, but the anxiety and worry hadn't gone away just yet.

-Smiling Friends POV-

"alright boys, you got a job to do. So get your sweet asses off them chairs and get going to (insert address here)" Mr. Boss told the two friends who were in the middle of their favorite show on the telly.

Pim light up in excitement and turned to Charlie, lightly pulling on his hoodie.

"come on Charlie! We have a new person to help! Isn't it exciting?!" He cooed excitedly.

"yeah, of course, yet another depressed person who we may or may not be able to help, how exciting" the pessimist responded, standing up.

"Awe.. don't be like that Charlie! We get to meet someone new! See a new face and possibly make a new friend! What if we help this person just like we helped Desmond!?" Pim smiled brightly and jumped off his chair, walking beside his friend.

"you mean helping them make a business off of killing things?" Charlie asked, glancing down at Pim, raising an eyebrow.

"uh.. uuhhh..." he paused and stared at the floor for a moment before deflecting. "Uh, of course not! Helping in a good way! Like finding a purpose in life!! Just like Mr. Frog!!"

"He also killed someon-.."

"bad example.. maybe we can help someone properly this time is what I mean.." Pim interrupted.

Charlie shrugged, having stuffed both his hands in his hoodie pocket while they walked.

-Reader POV-

The depression episodes wasn't really the problem now, just the thought of greeting the guests was building extreme levels of anxiety. Even though I'd cleaned the house to the best of my ability it didn't feel ready for anyone but me, let alone strangers?!

Pacing back and forth didn't help either, if anything it caused my heart rate to increase.

I hope the people who had this job and were coming over weren't too judgmental, maybe inviting them for some soda would be a nice thing to do? If I were being honest, the job these two had just sounded like a simpler therapist. I hope they're nice.

They're probably nice, why wouldn't they be?! I mean if they work with helping people who needs help they probably like socializin-..

ding dong

they're.. here..

that was quick...

Walking over to the door I feel myself sweating more as I get more nervous. I quickly get to the door and slowly open it.

"h-hello?" I greet. Being met face to face with a tall yellow man in an orange hoodie and a short pink man in a white shirt.

The pink man introduces them both.

"hello! My name is Pim and this is my friend Charlie!!" He gestures to the yellow guy.

"we are from the Smiling Friends and we're here to help you smile!!" He finishes his sentence and adds jazz hands excitingly.

I carefully bow and let them in.

"Would you like some soda? Or maybe water?" I offer awkwardly as I feel them staring me down.

Hopefully they don't notice the slight smell of sweat coming from me... I think to myself

"why we'd love some soda!" Pim answers, walking inside with a light blush across his face.

Charlie slowly follows with a wrinkled nose.

-Smiling Friends POV-

wow (he/she/they're) so pretty... Pim thinks to himself as he passes.

is that ...sweat?.. Charlie thinks as he passes.

The two friends are guided to the living room and sit down on the couch, looking around the somewhat messy apartment as the host go fetch them each a glass of Passiona.

Charlie looks up at (him/her/them) confused.

"Wait.. you were actually serious when you said soda? Where's the alcohol?"

(Y/N) looks flustered in embarrassment

"I-I'm sorry?..."

Pim's eyes widen and shakes his hands laughing nervously.

"it's fine!! It's fine!! Soda is totally okay, right Charlie?!!" He says and looks over at his pessimistic friend. Not wanting to have this job of theirs go south so soon.

(Y/N) sits down across from the two and awkwardly gulps, the smiling friends doing the same along with taking a sip from their drinks.

"So..." Pim begins, feeling the tension die down a bit before he continues his sentence.

"you want to tell us about the call?"
