Red String soul mate au

Basically a red string is tied to every single person's ring finger and at the end of the string is their soul mate. Red strings appear on new years every year.

Cutting the string results in love never being found for either sides of the string.

In order to accept a soul mate, the people connected need to hold hands and promise to stay together, which results in the string turning into red rings.

Everyone was at the Picnic table, waiting for the new year.
"Who do yall think is gonna get a red string?" Felix asked the table. Everyone thought for a moment.
"We don't really know, Felix. Soul mates are a confusing subject but if I had to guess, Andy." Margaret said. Andy's cheeks were dusted a darker red then they usually were.
"I hope so, I hope we all get to know who our soul mates are eventually." Andy responded. Claus' head dinged, symbolizing the new year. A red string slowly tied itself around Claus, Andy, and Melody's ring fingers. Everyone stared at the red strings. Claus yawned audibly, then spoke. No one noticed how bright Claus and Andy's strings were.
"I'll wait for my soul mate to follow the string. For now, I'm going to bed." Claus stood up and started walking away. Melody and Margaret both noticed a tug on Andy's string when Claus started walking away; along with the glow slowly fading.
"OoOh~ I think I know your soul mate Andy." Melody cooed, smirking after her teasing.
"Oh?! Who is it?" Andy genuinely was curious.
"Its Claus, when he walked away your string got tugged." Margaret answered for Melody. Andy's face became an extremely deep red.
"No- no way!! He's my best friend, there's just-" Andy was cut off by everyone laughing. Andy scoffed and walked away.
"Melody whos your soul mate?" Felix asked.
"I dunno but I do have a guess." Melody laughed.

Andy woke up extremely early, 4 am to be exact. He yanked on his string when he noticed it faintly glowing. (That means his soul mate is nearby). The apple started walking outside, following his string.

Claus didn't sleep, he was too scared to. The clockman was worried that his soul mate wouldn't be someone he knew and that his soul mate would dislike him. There were horror stories of people bound by red strings that hated each other. Claus didn't wanna be the next one. He had multiple thoughts of just cutting the string off, but he didnt. Claus held out hope that his soul mate would love him.

Andy yawned as he continued to follow the string, he did notice something though. He kept having to untie the string from things; particularly in areas he and Claus had spent time together in. This idea proved Margaret and Melody right but he refused to believe it. The strings glow became more and more intense as he walked. Finally he was lead to Claus' front door. 'Maybe this is just another place where I need to untie part of the string,' Andy thought. Deep down he hoped that Claus was his soul mate, but he was still in denial.

Claus glanced down at the string, the glow was extremely intense, filling most of his room with light. He rolled out of bed and sighed, how had his soulmate found him so quick? It was only 5:31 am. Then, a knock was heard at the door. The clockman was extremely excited yet anxious of who could be behind the door. Claus slowly approached the door and opened it, revealing Andy. The string glew so bright it began to hurt the duo's eyes. Both of them realized what was happening and blushed harshly.
"Well, it seems that you've found your soul mate." Claus stated. Andy hugged Claus.
"I didn't know- well, I hoped I didn't know it was you. I knew it was you. I tried to ignore it but the cat's out of the bag. I love you, Claus." Andy spoke quietly and softly. Claus was shocked but shook it off. He smiled faintly.
"I love you too, Andy." Claus hugged the apple back. Then, Claus took Andy's hand in his own.
"I promise, until the day I die to love you, Andy." Claus whispered softly. Andy smiled.
"I promise, until the last star in the sky blows up, that I will love you, Claus." Andy responded, a tear falling down his cheek.
"Til death do us part?" Claus asked as the string slowly turned into a ring.
"Until death does us part."
