talking about it

It was around 7 or 8 o'clock, you couldn't really tell you weren't paying attention. The words of your friend? You weren't quite sure. Playing in a loop in the back of your head. Your eyes have been closed for the past hour or two, mabey even three. Pretending to be asleep in hopes of avoiding any questions from the family around you.

Frank looks to his left at y/n then to Dwayne, a puzzled look plastered on his face. He was confused on why you and Dwayne weren't sitting together like you normally did. He also wondered what had happened to make you two seem so separated.

He pushed it off as none of his business looking back out the window to his right watching as the mountains and trees wooshed by.

Opening your eyes when you felt the car stop you can hear Sheryl vaguely say something about getting everyone's stuff out from the trunk so that they could settle in for the night at the motel thet previously stayed in.

Sluggishly sitting up you look Infront of you meeting the eyes of dwayne. You jump a little, shocked. Why was he looking at you in the first place? You quickly look away getting out of the bus almost tripping like all the times before, except this time you didn't have Dwayne to help you steady yourself.

Frank and well almost everyone else in the bus saw this interaction confused on as to why you two weren't speaking to each other anymore. Very odd for the both of you. Well mabey not for Dwayne.

Grabbing your luggage Sheryl hands out the room keys stating who was staying with who. Sheryl and Richard together, olive and Frank, and of course you and dwayne.

You mentally feel yourself shut down, almost completely at the idea of sharing a motel room with the guy you just got rejected by. But you decided that wasn't important right now taking the key and heading up the stairs that led to the floor you were staying at.

Unlocking the door you push it open setting your things on the bed closest to the door.  Sighing you plop down back first onto the hard mattress feeling a sudden wave of relief wash over you.

Then you hear the sound of a duffle bag being dropped onto the bed next to you. You close your eyes, you had totally forgotten you were sharing a room with Dwyane. Oh what an experience this is going to be.

You get up not looking at Dwyane grabbing some night clothes, a towel, and your tooth brush and paste you head into the bathroom locking the door behind you.

You turn on the shower hearing the loud noise of the water being sprayed onto the tile floor below you. Getting into the shower you stand there for a moment thinking.

After what felt like an eternity Dwayne gets fed up with waiting, and gets a little worried at how long you've been in there, knocking on the bathroom door snapping you out of your thoughts. "You good?" Dwayne asks leaning a little closer to the door so he could hear your response.

You jump slightly at his voice being heard through the door. You answer after a short moment of silence. "Yeah." Is all you said before turning off the shower water and getting ready for bed.

You unlock the door pulling it open to be met with Dwayne sitting on your bed facing the bathroom door, seemingly waiting for you to be done showering.

You think nothing of it before placing your dirty clothes into your bag watching as Dwayne enters the bathroom closing the door after him.

It's about 10:40 pm and you'd been reading a book Dwayne had given you before the trip. Sighing your look to your left at Dwayne who had his back twords you. You turn so your back was facing his turning off the lamp next to you before laying down trying to go to sleep.

You lay there for what seemed like hours, but in reality was probably five minutes. You sit up not being able to sleep, at all. You check your surroundings making sure Dwayne wasn't awake before you head out the door and onto the balcony.

What you didn't expect was to see frank out on the balcony seemingly looking at nothing. You didn't mind the company but you did kind of want to be alone right now, but it's whatever.

Walking up so your arms could rest on the balcony, it's silent for a moment before frank speaks up. "Hey, is everything ok?" He looks to you, you don't look back.

"Yeah? I don't know, god..." You stammered out letting your head fall slightly down. You didn't know what to say or do. Do you answer truthfully, I mean you could it's not like frank could judge you for anything.

You finally look to him when he speaks for the second time. "It's ok I get it.." he trails off looking back out to the parking lot. "You can talk about it if you want, I don't mind." You look back down to your hands thinking if you should tell him or not.

'fuck it.' you have nothing to lose now, I mean you've already fucked up what you had going with your best friend so there's no point in hiding now.

"I confessed to Dwayne today..." You look to your left hurt at being reminded of the events that happened on the pier earlier that day.

Frank looks at you eyes wide an O shape making it's way onto his mouth.  He hadn't thought of the possibility of you confessing to Dwayne anytime soon, especially when you'd be stuck in a car with each other for two days and then some. "I'm guessing it didn't go well." Frank says.

You glance at him for a moment before answering him. "Yeah, he kind of said how he 'could never like me because I'm a guy' or some shit. I don't really remember." Your lying your remember exactly what he said, like how someone remembers their child's first birthday. It was engraved into your brain haunting you, or that's what it seems like.

Frank was taken aback by your answer. I mean from what he could tell you and Dwayne were joined at the hip. Constantly together, weather that be reading a book or simply just sitting next to one another in silence taking in each other's presence.

He saw how you spoke with Dwayne. He saw how happy you were to be around him. And Dwayne seeming the same way. So it came as a shock to hear his nephew say something like that. He had wholeheartedly thought that nothing could tear you away from each other. Dwayne did only agree to coming to on this trip because of you after all.

"No way, really?" He asks shocked. You look at the parking lot below you and Frank.

"Yeah. Really." At this point you've accepted defeat and rejection, fine with the fact that you had just ruined a almost 8 month old friendship with the guy you like. "And now it's awkward. Really awkward." You finish not taking your eyes off the cold metal railing underneath your arms.

Frank nods in understanding. It silent for awhile before you stand up straight. "I'm going to head back to bed." You yawn covering your mouth with your hand. "Thanks frank." You smile at him and he smiles back before both of you head back into your selective rooms.
