Nicole's POV:

"Hey, what register do you want me on?"

My boss turned her attention to me, "Hey Nicole! Could you take over for Molly on register 6?"

"Yeah, I can do that," I reassured her.

I walk to register 6 and let Molly know I'll take over for her when she's done with that order. She give me a small nod and a friendly smile. She steps away from the register and lets me take over for her.

I send her a bright smile, "Enjoy the rest of your day Molly!"

She sends me a grin, "Thank you, I will."

I greet customers and scan their orders until there isn't anyone else in my line. After I straighten up my register I walk to the front and stand there. My bagger joins me at the front of the register.

"Hey, how are you?" I question my bagger.

He sents me a smile, "I'm good, only have an hour left. So, that makes it better."

I roll my eyes. Guys are always excited to leave. A small smirk crosses my lips.

He raises an eyebrow, "Something funny?"

"Mmm," I mumbled, "by the way, I'm Nicole."

"Korbyn," he replies with a slight head nod as a greeting.

My eyes light up as I turn to him, "I used to have a friend named Corbin!"

"Oh really? How do you spell his name?" he asked.

"I assume it was C-o-r-b-i-n, I'm not sure though. I never had him write it on paper." I said as I thought it over.

"Mine's spelt K-o-r-b-y-n, it's unusually to spell it that way."

" I like that name," I said frankly.

Korbyn grinned, "Tell me about your friend."

"He was younger than me by about 2-3 years. We got allong really well. My siblings always accused me of having a crush on him." I inform him.

He looks at me curious, "Did you?"

"No! We just got allong really well. That doesn't mean I had to have a crush on him. Guys and girls can just be friends."

He nodded his head in agreement, "Anyways, how old are you?"

"How old do you think I am?" I asked enjoying when people estimated my age.

"Umm," he looked at me for a second, squinting. "16?"

I let out a soft chuckle, "Close, I'm 17. I'll be 18 in three months. How old are you?"

"15," he replied. "My birthday is May 5th. What about yours?"

"September 20th."

"Nice. Senior this year?" he asked.

"Yup. I can't wait to be done with school," I say dramaticly.

"Don't tease me," Korbyn complained. "I'm only a sophmore this year."

I give him a pouty face, "Sorry for you."

He let out a chuckle. "What school do you go to?"

"I'm actually homeschooled," I told him.

"Really? Do you like it?"

"Yeah, I do. It gives me a lot of flexablity. What school do you go to?"

"I'm actually online through the high school. Masks are still required at the school, and I'm not wearing that shit all day," he shrugged.

I nodded my head in agreement, "That makes sense. I really hate masks too."

"Do you do any sports?" he asked me.

"I do horseback riding. I enjoy sports though. I play basketball and baseball with my brother, I'm not very good at it. Even so, I'm super competitive," I laugh. "Do you play any?"

"I used to play volleyball for the high school, up until they required masks. There is no way I'm playing any sport with a mask on," he said, looking repulsed by the idea.

"I guess that would be pretty hard. It's already hard enough to breathe normally with them on," I muttered. I couldn't imagine playing hard and gasping for breath with a mask on. Not to mention, the mask would be sucked into your mouth. Yuck!

"I miss it," he admitted, "but I wouldn't have as much time for it now anyway."

We had a few more guests come through and I checked them out as he bagged the orders. The hour was up much sooner than either of us expected. A replacement came in for him. He waved goodbye to me before he went to clock out. I sent him a small wave back, glad I met someone new who was friendly. I figured it would be awhile before we saw each other again. I didn't often work evenings. I wasn't totally wrong. It would be awhile, but not as long as I thought.
