The Night The Promise was Broken

Devon, Drake, Konnor, and Katalia were just minding their own business watching a movie for family night. Katalia called for pizza to come and when the doorbell rang, Devon and Katalia raced for the door. When the door opened, screams of terror could be heard from the duo. The parents ran to see what was going on. Devon and Katalia were being held hostage by 2 men and a woman named Leilani walks forward and says:

" They'll come back to you. Let's go, guys."

A half hour later, Devon and Katalia arrive at the local mall. They walk around.

Devon: It's pretty dark in here.

Katalia: Ya think?

One of the TVs came on with Leilani giving the following:

I will count to 10. By then, if you're not hidden, I'll come for you. And you won't see your parents ever again. Good luck!

Devon: - calmly - Where do we hide?

Katalia: I don't know! Oh, we're gonna die... we're going to die...

Devon; Hey, it's okay. Just don't stress it.

They then heard robotic movement. They looked towards their left and there was a robot with a chainsaw on its arm.

Devon and Katalia made a run for it. When they lost her, Devon said something to Katalia...

Devon: Listen. We have to split up. And if she kills me... here.

He gave her a photo of their family that they took a few hours earlier.

Devon: Keep it on you at all times. And whatever you do, do NOT lose it.

They heard the robot coming. Devon pushed Katalia away and told her to run. She ran and ran. Devon eventually hit a dead end. He went with his last resort to fight. He was smart enough to hit the robot open-handed but it didn't work for long. When he crouched in pain from breaking his hand, the robot took that chance and decapitated him. His bleeding head said these words:

Devon: I... I... Katalia... run... love... family...

He died with his bleeding body and head. The robot ran for Katalia next. Katalia didn't look back despite her worries of the robot approaching closer. Katalia wasn't paying attention to her feet so while she was running, she sprained her ankle. She noticed a nearby vent and crawled into it. She prayed the robot wouldn't find her in that vent. But while she was crawling inside, the robot caught her foot and lifted Katalia upside down. Before the robot swung, a non-robotic, female voice said to her...

The Robot: Say "hi" to your brother for me.

When the robot swung, the chainsaw hit her abdomen, cutting her in half, leaving behind a huge pool of blood and her intestinal organs almost spilled out of her. She lasted a few seconds with her eyes open but she saw the robot take off its head and it was Leilani. Katalia died that very minute when Leilani walked away. A few hours later, the police showed up to tell Drake and Konnor the news. Drake dropped to the ground, devastated...

Drake: - voice breaking - No... No!... No, not them, God!!! Anyone but them!!!

Konnor: I can't... believe it either...

Poley was also in the police car, crying that his best bud died. A memory came back to Konnor when he promised his daughter he would never leave her and she promised him too. But that promise was broken. When Katalia was 4, her and her dad were playing hide-and-seek but started crying when she couldn't find Konnor. They sang a little song to remember that promise...

Promises are made all the time

We make promises to keep

But sometimes, the end up broken

If you keep the promise

You'll have good luck

But be careful of what tries to take it away

Especially of those around you

You're my princess and Mommy is the Queen

 But back at the mall...

Devon's soul: - gasps - Katalia!

Katalia's soul: Devon!

The two souls embraced each other and cried tears of joy. But then a thought occurred to Katalia...

Katalia's soul: Wait... what happened to you?

Devon's soul: You sure you want to look?

Katalia agreed. When she looked at his body, she almost threw up.

Devon's soul: Can I see yours?

Katalia led him to her body and Devon was on the verge of tears. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. He thought it was best to leave and Katalia agreed. Their souls left the mall, on their way to see their family again.
