All day I can't stop thinking about Veronica kissing me. But I have to stop thinking about it because every time I remember her hands near my neck, I have to touch my lips. It's stupid, because it was only to get us cheer leading spots, but it felt so real. So loving.

When I see Veronica talking to Kevin, I walk over. " Are you excited for the semi formal tomorrow night? I already have my dress picked out." I say.

" It's tomorrow? I can't go. I don't know if I can throw an outfit together by then." Veronica worries.

" Don't freak out, because I will 100% help you if you want it." I assure her.

" Excellent. You can come over after school and I will try on some dresses for you." Veronica tells me.

I wait for the last little bit of school to end before meeting Veronica outside. She is standing at the bottom of the stairs. As soon as I get close enough, she takes my arm in hers like earlier and we start walking.

Veronica's room has a queen sized bed, with a mirror and chair. It has pictures hanging on the wall, and a stand full of makeup and jewlery. She sits me down on her bed and starts to grab dresses, pressing them against her body. " This one says date me but I don't need a date, but this one makes an independent statement." Veronica compares a flowery dress with a sparkly blue dress.

I think about it, shaking my head. " neither. The flowery dress sends last high school year vibes, and the sparkly one should be a big reveal later in the year."

Veronica sighs and pulls out another dress. This one is a strapless, dark black metallic dress. " Try it on," I instruct.

Going into the bathroom and coming back moments later with the tight dress on makes my jaw drop. " Yes, yes, loving it." I gush, getting up to take a better look.

" Okay, but does it say semi formal?" Veronica asks me.

I nod my head vigorously. " It could use some jewelry though."

Picking up a pearl necklace, I make Veronica turn around. Stringing it around her neck, my heart beats faster. I feel my fingers brush against her neck. It's probably only my imagination, but I think I hear Veronica's breathing quicken.

When she turns back around, I smile. " Perfect."

" You think?"

" Definitely."

Then Veronica says something unexpected. " I know you already have a dress picked out, but what if you tried on one anyway. I have a million of them."

With much nervousness, I agree. And Veronica flies into a fashion frenzy. Throwing dresses at me, and tossing shoes my way. I have to dodge and weave around the room to try and not get hit. " Try this one on with these shoes, and give it a twirl." Veronica instructs, excitedly, " I'm sorry, I've just never done this with a friend before."

I go into the bathroom, taking off my shirt. Afterwards, I slip the blue dress on. It had frilly shoulders, and a wide cut. As I turn the knob, I say " be kind."

When I swing the door open, Veronica has a shocked face. " What? Is it bad? Does it not fit?" I question.

" No, no, no. It fits amazingly." Veronica says.

" I know that I'm going to take this off in a second, but could you zip me up? Just to get the full effect?"

" Sure thing," Veronica agrees.

I turn away from her and wait. The moment her fingers touch my back, a tingling sensation runs up my spine. She zips the dress up and I turn back around.

Silence fills the room, as Veronica's fingers near my back still linger in my mind. I hear the shallow breaths from Veronica, as we face each other. Our foreheads almost touch before the door opens. I whip my head up like Veronica does as well. " I'm back from the job interview. You are looking at a new waitress for Pop's-"

There, stands a woman with long brown hair and tanned skin. I assume she's Veronica's mother. I stand awkwardly on the spot. " Um, hi Mom." Veronica greets.

" I didn't know we had company." Mrs Lodge says.

" This is Betty Cooper. She was helping me choose a dress for the semi formal tomorrow night." Veronica explains.

Mrs Lodge nods, shutting the door again. " Sorry about my Mom. Dad's embezzlement has been really hard for her." Veronica apologizes.

" It's fine, really. Isn't it hard for you as well?" I ask.

Veronica nods.

And suddenly, she is sitting on the bed, motioning me to sit down with her.

" Daddy always used to buy me everything I wanted. Purses, shoes, dresses. Anything my heart desired. But then the police came to our house. And he was walking out with them in handcuffs." I know when her voice cracks, " it was in the newspaper and on television. And I was alone. Mom had to sell our home and we moved back here. But along the way I lost everything. My friends, the respect of others. Everything that made me happy. And I'm trying to find my place and change. But when everyone thinks you're the toxic rich bitch, not many people trust you. So when I met you, the one person who wants to be my friend, I got hopeful. Except now I'm worried that you still think I'm a spoiled brat." Veronica vents.

Before I realize what I'm doing, I wrap my arms around Veronica, and let her head rest on my shoulder. " Nobody's perfect. You can't let your Dad's reputation pull you down. Because I'm here for you. And that won't change."
