"That'll be 2.90," the cashier said as she patiently waited for me to hand her my card.
"Thank you," she replies, as I respond with a quick "You're welcome!"

I quietly take my seat after receiving my favorite drink, and stare outside of the window, taking a small sip.
What I had always loved about the small cafe was that it was always with the same customers, no weirdos and never any horrible reviews.

The area is slightly secluded, with hardly anything nearby but a few small antique shops and thrift stores with little company, and the orange-tinged trees that surround the cafe.

I look down at the small table and open my laptop I had in my bag, placing it on the table and plugging my earbuds in; playing "Starboy" at a low volume as I read my document I was typing up for my class assignment.

The door opens as the bell connected to it rings in reply; a tall lanky raven-haired man with bright blue eyes walks in. He wore a medical mask, which it has been a while with the coronavirus it has already gone away, so no point in wearing it really, but I guess I shouldn't judge.

He takes a seat just beside mine and searches for his phone through his pocket, and begins scrolling shortly after turning it on.

I didn't recognize the man at all, which I at least recognized most of the other customers, but again, I shouldn't pay attention to any of the people around here; it's weird.

Later after stepping out of the cafe, the man walks out just after me, walking off to the small street.

I felt a small droplet of water fall onto my hand, and looking up to the sky in response I notice that it was darkly cloudy. After hearing a small rumble in the sky I guessed a thunderstorm was approaching.

"Dammit, I forgot my umbrella..." I flip up my hoodie and sit on my bike which had been placed by the small lot of the cafe and ride towards the grocery store, "Freshmart Goods" which happened to be nearby and head inside shortly after placing my bike back down again at the lot.

As I walked in, I looked around for something to do as the rain began to pour, and noticed a stack of newspapers on the little rack nearby the door.

Taking one of the newspapers, I read the large headlines at the top of the page:

"FAMILY FOUND DEAD IN HOME; NO SUSPECTS. CALL XXX-XXX-XXX IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION.

Family of three found dead in home; police say they have been brutally murdered. Currently they do not have any suspects yet.
Found on 10-14-20XX, at 8:07 AM, close neighbors recall seeing tall male about 6'2 fleeing the scene with light jacket around 5:36 AM, 10-13-20XX but can not give any further information."

I slowly set the newspaper down, my jaw practically dropped. My town is small, it's secluded, and it has the nicest community, how could this have happened? It was bizarre; how anything like this could have happened at all, and so suddenly.
