The soft glow of a lamp illuminated Y/N's face as she knelt before the small shrine in her room, hands clasped in earnest prayer. She whispered a silent plea for the well-being of her family and friends, seeking solace in the only place that had ever offered her comfort. Just as she finished, a familiar voice called from behind.
"Y/N, look! Your favorite film, KGF Chapter 2, is releasing tomorrow!" Maya's voice rang with excitement.
Y/N turned swiftly, her eyes widening in joy. "Oh my God, really? I am so excited! Book the first-day first-show tickets, Maya!"
Maya grinned. "Already done. The show is at 12 PM. Just make sure to ask Uncle and Aunty for permission. And best of luck with that." With a knowing look, Maya walked away, leaving Y/N to contemplate the impending conversation with her parents.
Her heart sank at the thought. Since birth, her parents had viewed her as a disappointment, their desire for a son overshadowing any affection they might have had for her. Their resentment manifested in cruel words and actions, and they rarely allowed her the freedom to enjoy simple pleasures like going out with friends. Nevertheless, summoning her courage, she approached the living room where they were engaged in a discussion.
"Mom, Dad," she called out softly.
Both parents turned toward her, their expressions void of warmth. "What?" her mother snapped, irritation evident in her tone.
"Can I go watch a movie with my friends? I promise I'll be back as soon as it ends," Y/N pleaded, her voice laced with desperation.
Her mother scoffed. "And why do you think we would let you go?"
"Please, Mom. I won’t ask for anything else after this. I’ll do all the household chores, whatever you ask of me. Just this once," she implored, sinking to her knees beside her mother.
Her father leaned back, scrutinizing her with a cold gaze. "Fine. You can go. But you must do exactly as we say. What time is the movie?"
"It’s at 12 PM," Y/N replied hesitantly.
"Then be home by 2 PM. If you're late, be ready for the consequences," he warned, his tone carrying an unspoken threat.
Y/N nodded quickly, hiding her relief. Unbeknownst to her, her parents had more sinister plans in mind.
"Honey, why did you let her go?" her father asked once Y/N had left the room.
His wife smirked. "Let her enjoy her last taste of freedom. Soon, we’ll be rid of her. We’re selling her."
A cruel grin spread across his face. "As you say, my love."
The Next Day – 10 AM
The sun cast a golden hue over the morning sky as Y/N excitedly called Maya.
"Hello, Maya!"
"Hey, Y/N! So, what happened? What did your parents say? Are you coming?"
"Yes, of course! Who would say no to Superstar Yash?" Y/N beamed.
"Oh my God! How did you even convince them?"
"Magic," Y/N teased.
Maya laughed. "Alright, meet us at XXXX Mall. Don’t forget, the show is at 12 PM sharp."
"Got it! Bye!"
Y/N ended the call and hurried through her chores, her excitement bubbling over. By 11:10, she was dressed and on her way to the mall. Upon arrival, she called Maya again.
"Maya, where are you? I’m here."
"Come to the third floor. We’re about to enter the theatre. Be quick!"
"On my way!" she responded, rushing upstairs. Inside the theatre, she took a seat beside her friends, eager for the film to begin.
Y/N’s POV
As the credits rolled, I wiped away the stray tears threatening to fall. Rocky’s death had left a hollow ache in my heart. If only someone could love me as fiercely as he did. But it was just a movie. Love like that didn’t exist in real life. I sighed, listening to my friends chatter.
"Wow, the movie was amazing!" Sneha gushed.
"I know, but the ending was too sad," Arya added.
"Yeah, but the dialogues were legendary," Dia chimed in.
"My favorite was that nepotism one. The way he said it was both mocking and hilarious," Maya chuckled.
I checked the time and my heart dropped. 2:10 PM. Oh no. Dad will kill me. I quickly bid my friends farewell and rushed home.
The moment I stepped inside, I saw him waiting. His expression was dark with fury.
"What time is it?" he asked, voice laced with venom.
"2:25 PM," I answered timidly.
Without another word, he grabbed his belt and struck me with unrestrained force. The beating continued for an hour before he finally relented, leaving me broken and bruised. I dragged myself to my room, locked the door, and stepped into the bathroom to clean my wounds. Staring out of the window, I whispered a silent wish.
If only someone could love me. Just once.
Sleep claimed me before I knew it.
The Next Morning
I was awakened by a voice calling my name. My eyes fluttered open, adjusting to the dim light of my room. A man stood beside my bed, his face strangely familiar yet unfamiliar at the same time.
"Wake up, Y/N. Your friend Reena is here. She’s waiting downstairs."
I blinked in confusion. "Who... are you?"
The man chuckled. "Oh my God, Y/N, did you hit your head? I’m your dad—Andrews."
Shock coursed through me. Andrews? My dad? This man looked exactly like a character from KGF. What was happening?
"Where are Mom and Dad? Where’s my house?" I whispered, fear gripping me.
Andrews sighed. "You really don’t seem fine. Get ready and go see Reena. If you still feel unwell, we’ll visit the doctor."
He left the room, leaving me paralyzed with disbelief. I forced myself to get up, took a quick bath, and dressed in a white Indian outfit. The mansion was enormous, nothing like my old house. I hesitantly made my way downstairs, my mind spinning with questions.
A girl sat on the sofa with her back facing me. Sensing my presence, she turned. My breath hitched.
Reena Desai.
Or should I say Shrinidhi Shetty?
She was walking toward me, and I realized—
What on earth have I gotten myself into?
