The baby was born just the other day. She's beautiful, brunette, has three dimples, and she's brown. She has a dimple on each cheeck, and one on her chin.
A few days after Serena was born Carolina got sick. She's in her bed, I still sleep in the barn with the rest of my friends (slaves).
Carolina died on May 25, and everyone in the town was at her funeral. Even her ex-fiance.
When we got back to the house Serena was hungry so I milked the cow, and put the milk in a bottle and fed her. Carolina's parents came in the room happy to see Serena. Carolina's parents told me I could be free if i gave them Serena. I refused.
"I will work here another century or so if that means i keep my baby."
Did the really think I would give them the only thing I have left to remind me of Carolina. Serena half of me and half of Carolina. She has her mama's dimples, brown eyes, and nose. Everything else she gets from her papa.
