I don't like changes. It makes me feel..off. Especially a huge change. For example, moving far from home. Moving from Birmingham to London. It may not seem far, it is. I left all of my friends back at home, and now I feel like an outsider.
Let me explain. I'm Elizabeth Astor, your average teenager. I'm 14 and I have two siblings. Jack Astor, who is 9, and Stephanie Astor, who is 6. They're an interesting duo, I must say. The biggest troublemakers in the world, they are. My parents are William Astor and Lauren Astor. My mom is the sweetest woman known to humankind. She could light up a room with a small smile, making my dad the luckiest man in the world. As for my dad, he has too much money and is very self centered. He seems to...not have time for my siblings and I, nor our mother. He wants me to get interesting in companies and to get comfortable with them, but all I feel happy doing is journaling. It's the one thing I didn't leave behind. Sure, I still have my bear lamp, my favorite book, and a picture frame. It's me and my best friend, Fey. I just sit in my room and journal, and listen to thunderstorms and rain and chimney sweeps on the roof and interesting conversations. But-
"Come onnn Liz, you have to atleast play trains with me once this week!" My little brother, Jack exclaimed. I rolled my eyes and shut my black colored journal, that just about matched the color of my long wavy hair. I looked at the small brunette child and smiled. "I promise I will soon, Jack," I started, and motioned for him to sit on my bed. Wide eyed, he obeyed, hoping for an exciting story or good news. He rested his head on my shoulder and sighed. "Sometimes I really miss Phillip," he said, distraught.
That was his best friend.
They both had the same mole on their eyebrow, making them friends instantly. I rubbed his head. "Sometimes I really miss Fey!" I replied, giggling, attempting to lighten the dark cast mood over my almost-empty new bedroom. Jack looked at me and started to giggle too.
The door slammed open. "LIZZYYYYYYYYY!" my little sister, Stephanie screamed. "DADDY NEEDS YOU IN THE PARLOR TO HELP MOVE BOXES!" I walked over to her and covered her mouth. "Ask properly," I started, slowly taking my hand off of the intimidated child. "Daddy wouldn't be happy if he heard you screaming throughout the new house and disturbing the new neighbors, now would he?" The small girl pondered for a moment, then sighed. "I guess you're right." she said, defeated.
Jack stood up on my bed and stared down at Steph and I. "Daddy wants everything to be perfect, perfect is boring!" he exclaimed, attempting not to be too loud, to the point where my father would be unhappy. I nodded my head in agreement and picked myself up off of the comfy oasis of a naked twin sized mattress. "You're right, we can't be shut up in the nursery for good. We need some form of freedom in our lives" I stated firmly, and started my way down the stairs.
The parlor was an example of pure chaos, as tsunami was to city. My father hired many movers, and half of them didn't show!
Everyone will work, he said.
No one will be sitting, being lazy. I will not allow that in this fine household!
Remembering that statement, I looked over at my father, sitting on a green armchair, drinking coffee. "No! The lamp must go BEHIND the sofa!" He screamed. Hah, if anyone, it was him disturbing the neighbors. "You insolent fools!"
I rolled my eyes in amusement and grabbed the boxes with blue sticky tape that read "Elizabeth's Room". My siblings and I were color coded in items, like moving boxes. My sealing tape was a shade of London Sky Blue, Jack's was a Overgrown Vine Green, and Steph's was a Jewelry Box Blush. I smiled, happy to be in possession of my things again.
One,
two,
three,
four.
Four boxes. Wait.
Four boxes?! I had five to start!
I looked around for my mother and went up to her. "Mother.." I started, as she turned her light blue eyes glistening in the last bit of sunset. She was beautiful. "Yes dear?" she said through a smile.
"I lost a box!"
"Did you indeed?"
"Yes, mother."
"That's odd. Check in the back of the truck."
"B-but it's leaving!" I said, turning to look at the moving truck starting up.
"Go stop it. They'll understand."
"Promise?"
"I promise. Now go before it's too late."
I went outside to knock on the truck door. "Sir! I left a box!" I exclaimed at the window. The old man sighed and opened the back.
I peered in to find the last box that said "Elizabeth's Room". I reached for the small box and stepped out. I motioned to the driver that I found it and that he was good to go. He frowned and started to drive away.
"Thank you..?" I said, staring at the truck driving away in the foggy evening. I turned to my house and took a deep breath.
"Hello, 17, Cherry Tree Lane." Just as I said that, there was a breeze of cool air.
I shivered and looked down the street.
I saw a man, smiling back at me. I offered a smile as he turned away. What an odd sight.
It was somewhat comforting. I looked around at the abrupt loss of sight ten feet in front of me.
There was a mist coming in, like something was brewing......about to begin.
(a/n: woo! first chapter done! this one's a bit short, but I wrote it all in one day! and unlike SAU, I don't have it all written out. I'm going as the days go by! once again, thanks for reading!
