Whenever I was born my mother wanted me to be a full human. Guess, nobody told her that once a kitsune marries a human and plans to have children that they will have more traits as a kitsune than their human parent. So once, she saw that I wasn't a normal kid, she would blame my father everyday.
"It's all YOUR FAULT! She's a MONSTER!" She kept screaming at him every day and night.
"Iris, go to your room, okay?" he will always tell me with a mask of a smile. A smile that he always tries to hide his heart shattering to pieces whenever he hears his wife, the mother of her two-year-old daughter calls her a "monster".
But I always went to my room and cried. "Why doesn't mommy love me as much as daddy does? Am I not her little princess?" I kept wondering that same question for most of my childhood.
Whenever I made the smallest mistake she would lock me down in the basement where there was a closet with holes for me to breathe in. And she would shove me there forcefully and make me stay there till my father came back home.
"I'm home!" I heard my father say as he came in exhausted from his night shift from the hospital.
"Welcome home, honey!" my mother will say with a mask of the "loving wife" as she kissed his cheek.
She would smile till he asked the question that made her drop her mask away from her face. "Where's Iris? I want to hug our princess. "
She would be silent for a few seconds as she let go of his arm that she once was wrapped around and led him where I was.
"In the basement. There you will find your princess. " she said as she walked away from there.
The color of his face was bleached from the terrifying knowledge that the mother of his daughter would go to that extreme. He ran to the basement and unlocked the door. He only saw the fragile glass shaped of his daughter curled up having a panic attack as she was sobbing for a savior to take her out from the darkroom.
"D-D-Daddy! S-She...I-I...I-I'm sorry! I-I will be a good daughter! I-I promise! B-But please don-don't lock me there again...P-Please." he heard his frightened daughter cry out to him as he pulled her closer to him and hugged her tightly.Once I was calmed he took me to my room and tugged me in.
".....Why would you do that?" he asked my mother as he glared at my mother's emotionless eyes.
"I don't know what you're talking about." she ignored his question.
"YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN! Now answer me...." he said as his eyes started to glow brighter every second.
"I just punished her for staining her white dress," she said coldly.
"JUST BECAUSE OF THAT?! THAT'S HARSH FOR A CHILD!" he exclaimed as he started to shift his teeth, his hair turned the deepest part of the ocean's color, and his nine-tails, as well as his fluffy ears, popped out.
"She's fine. She'll deal with it whenever she's eighteen since she can move out. I would have cared less. And remember darling~, I could report you anytime I please with the government. And they would take you and your pathetic daughter just to make experiments out of y'all." she told him, smirking.
His kitsune features formed back to his fragile human self. "...Just don't hurt her. I'm begging you just please, don't give her scars nor lock her there again." he said as he kneels in front of her.
She smirked and said, "Fine since you seem very pathetic right now."
After that day, she stopped shoving me there, but the horror didn't stop there. One day, whenever I came back from middle school, as I put my stuff down in my room and went downstairs I heard my mother calling for me. "Iris~! Darling~! Can you come here for a second?"
"Coming!" I replied as I went downstairs, I felt a small voice telling me not to go downstairs where she was. I had a sickening feeling that something was gonna happen today. Something that could make my world turn upside down. Yet...I don't listen.
I see my mother smiling widely with her hand behind her back. Her smile sends shivers down my spine. I can't help but see a mischievous and death threatening expression.
"Mom?" I asked her as I tried to back away.
"....I should have left you with your father the day you were born. You're ruining my reputation with the higher class women. But don't worry...I'm gonna make sure you don't ever do that again." as she stated that last sentence I see her unhiding her hand behind her back and running towards me.
My father came out from the corner of the corridor and....took the stab for me. Instead of my mother crying...she laughed. She's the real monster, not me.
"N-NO, NO DADDY NO! P-Please don't leave!" I kept repeating trying to call an ambulance, but my mother stopped me.
"DON'T YOU DARE CALL THEM! LET YOUR PATHETIC FATHER DIE! IT'S HIS FAULT FOR INTERFERING!" she yelled with an over-the-top smile that still horrifies my nightmares.
"I-Iris, protect yourself from her. I'm sorry for rejecting you and not being like a father that you deserved. I'm sorry, but-" he says as he puts his hand on my cheek and wipes my tears. His eyes started to glow brightly.
"But remember that you're my daughter. You're the daughter of the fallen kitsune who was blinded from love. And you one day, fall in love as well, but promise that you won't be blinded by it as your pabo father has." he says as he tears up and shares his powers and small fragments of the past of him and my mother was always smiling. The memories stopped flashing and saw my father's eyes shutting down. I held onto his hand even more. My sobs were the only thing that you could hear. Even though he had always put his back away from me, he still loved me. And all that's left are memories, his possessions, and his beautiful artworks as well as songs he planned to make public. He will always be in my heart. After the police discovered my father's body they put charges on my mother for murder. Yet, she didn't care because she said something that not only terrified me but the officers. She said with a wide grin, "I won't miss next time, darling~." and it sent shivers down my spine. I was sent to my aunt's house from my father's side of the family that day.
"Iris~! Welcome ho-" she started to say as she saw me trembling with the police officer next to me and holding my shoulder.
"Hello, is this Miss Angelina Garcia?" the officer asked her.
"Yes, I'm Angelina Garica. What's going on?" she asked, but deep down I think she knew what happened.
"Mr.Garcia was murdered by his wife, Elizabeth Scott, and so Iris will be staying with you till we determine whether she will stay in full custody with you or with a foster family.." the officer replied.
My aunt's color vanished from her face. She looked at me and hugged me tightly. She didn't need to say anything, but I could understand what she was trying to say. "Okay, thank you, officer. I will take care of my niece as long as she wants me to do so," she says, trying to smile sweetly...just like how my father has once done.
After the officer left my aunt took me to the living room. The walls of shiny marble against the sunlight blinds me for a moment. Her long stairways to five different rooms on the second floor and five more are the third floor. I bumped against her back, I bow and apologize by saying, "Sorry, aunty Angel".
"It's fine darling~! I just...ca-can't believe...that...THAT WITCH TOUCHED MY BOOTIFUL BROTHER! OH! JUST SHE WAITS! I WILL TAKE REVENGE, YOU HEAR! REVENGE!" and there goes my aunt, being her usual protective sister of my dad.
I giggle a bit and that makes her smile. "I know aunty, I know."
"Had you eaten?" she asked me as she went to the kitchen to heat up the seafood soup.
"No, aunty," I replied as I followed the aroma of the delicious soup.
"Well come eat, sweetie," she says as she serves me a bowl of soup.
After dinner, she went to buy me clothes and my school uniform to go to school. And the court decided that it was best for me to stay with my aunt. And so she did.
We had many funny moments like how we went to adopt my first puppy which I named Marshmallow. Yes, I named the white snow and fluffy short puppy Marshmallow. Once, Marshmallow set foot in the house she ran as if she was running a marathon.
Another memory was whenever I and my aunt went to both of our first BTS concerts. And I have to admit.....they really ARE AMAZING! They're voices and visuals. As well as their iconic choreography. We even went to a fan-sign and I was a tomato and hiding my face at times because they were flawless. But, summer can't stay forever. Well, I wish. But, now I have to start my first year in high school.
