Faith (A Union J Fanfiction) Chapter 1

The buzz of my alarm pierced through my head as I managed to squint open my eyes. 10.30am, great. After 10 minutes I managed to find the will power in order to haul myself out of bed and over to the wardrobe. I huffed as I attempted to find something presentable to wear, I had to meet Soph in an hour at the local coffee shop. 

I slid into a pair of washed out skinny jeans and threw on a maroon sweat jumper, nothing fancy, I mean it was only a girly coffee. Looking into the mirror, I attempted a smile. Nope, still not perfect. I could point out every single flaw on the face but with ease I applied makeup and curled my hair. 

The air was nippy and made my hairs stand on end as I briskly walked to the bus station in the hope of actually catching my bus on time today and luckily I got there by the skin of my teeth. Staring out the slightly steamed up window of the bumpy bus I thought about my coffee order… Skinny Mocha Frappuccino? Double Expresso? Vanilla Coffee Shake?

Walking inside the coffee shop a warm blast of coffee smelling air hit me, leaving a small smile on my face.  It always felt so homely and cosy, it wasn’t too bright and the leather seats with their patchwork cushions always looked to welcoming. Instantly a flash of red hair caught my eye.

‘’Kelsey!’’ Soph squealed as she practically sprinted into my arms.

‘’Soph oh my god, oh my god, hi’’

She gestured over to a table over in the corner, but there was someone else already sitting there, from the back I couldn’t really tell who it was but he had brown hair that was kinda, tinted blonde and apart from that all I could see was that he was wearing a black jacket. As we approached I got a better view of him.

“You remember Jaymi right?”

I finally got a proper view of his face, Jaymi? Jaymi who? Oh shit yeah Jaymi Hensley. He stood up and gave me a kiss on the cheek.

‘’It’s so nice to see you again’’ He said enthusiastically.

I had only met Jaymi a few times on nights out with friends, I didn’t know too much about him if I’m honest. He was in a band called Triple J, he went to school with my sister, that’s about it. However, I slid down onto the sofa opposite them and dropped my bags. Jaymi was squinting at his phone.

“Josh will be here in around 2 minutes can we wait for him then order?’’

Soph looked up from her bag. ‘’Yeah of course’’

Josh? Who the fuck was Josh? I thought I was just coming for a cheeky girly catchup coffee not being around some lads I didn’t know. I looked down at my sweatshirt in dismay, I felt so dressed down now ugh. I took my phone from my bag and texted Soph

“Soph who the fuck is Josh? I’m so confused!”

She looked at me from across the table and smirked.

“He’s one of Jaymi’s mates, from the band? He’s really nice”

“HAVE YOU SEEN WHAT I LOOK LIKE? I LOOK LIKE A DOG OMG”

“Stop that Kels, it’ll be fine, we’re only having coffee”

I looked around cautiously, oh shit this is awful. Jaymi started waving to someone behind me.

“Josh! Over here mate!”

I turned around in my seat to catch a glimpse of ‘’Josh’’. OH MY GOD. Stood there was a guy who looked around 2 years older than me with chocolate brown hair and eyes to match. He was wearing dark skinny jeans, a loose grey t-shirt and denim jacket with the sleeves up just above his elbows. I think my eyes nearly popped out of my sockets then and there but I slowly turned back around, just to ‘’keep my cool’’.

I caught Soph’s attention and widened my eyes in utter shock. She smiled, she’d caught my jist. Jaymi stood up and gave Josh one those ‘’man hugs’’ and Soph did the same before pointing at me.

“Josh, this is Kelsey”

He gave me the most gorgeous smile and a stood up to greet him. He gave me a small hug and a waft of aftershave came over me. Oh my god he smelled amazing.

“It’s so nice to meet you Kelsey”

I smiled  as he sat down in the only seat that was left, next to me just as Jaymi asked for our coffee orders and strutted off to get them. A second later Soph got up to go help him. Great, left only with a gorgeous boy who I had no knowledge of what so ever. Despite that, Josh turned to me and began making friendly conversation.

“Soph’s told me a lot about you’’

I blushed in a state of panic, oh god. What had she been saying? He noticed my pink cheeks and chuckled slightly.

‘’All good things don’t worry!’’

I felt myself feel a little more at ease but I still couldn’t look at him, like properly look at him. I felt so insecure about the way I was dressed. I softly piped up.

“I really sorry for the state I look, I didn’t expect for us to have company”

Josh raised his eyebrows in both a confused and shocked manner.

“You look great don’t worry”

I looked down at my shoes and smiled to myself, did he actually just say I look great? Soph and Jaymi came back over with our drinks and placed them down on the round glass table.

The next hour and a half and two rounds of drinks I began to feel so much more comfortable. We talked about everything from embarrassing moments to about Josh and Jaymi’s band. I learned a lot about them both, about their families and especially a lot about their band, Triple J. I stood up and brushed myself down.

“Here I’ll get the next lot, same again?”

After discussion of the next drinks orders I wondered over to the counter and joined the back of the line, as I did so one of the Barristers opened the ‘’Staff Only’’ door and I saw a lad, in uniform kissing what looked like his girlfriend. It came to his attention that the door was open and he abruptly withdrew his lips from the girl’s and straightened himself out. I looked away, pretending I hadn’t noticed as he walked back to behind the counter. Reaching the front of the counter his name tag read ‘’George’’ he had long brown hair which wisped across his forehead  and he gave me his best ‘’Hi can I help you?’’ smile.

Juggling all four drinks in my hands I managed to make my way back over to the table where Josh. Soph and Jaymi were sat. They were all laughing and talking just as before. I carefully placed all four mugs on the table and collapsed back onto the squidgy sofa. Josh slid his phone to me across the table… I looked at him, slightly confused and he smirked and said

‘’Your digits?’’

I laughed at how stupid I must of just looked and picked up the phone and tapped in my number, saving it under ‘’Kelsey :)’’ as he gave me a cheeky smile.

And then eventually it was time to leave, the boys had to meet their other band mate, who’s name I’d discovered was JJ for a rehearsal and Soph had a hair appointment so needed to rush off. Standing up, I gave Jaymi a hug and Soph a gigantic cuddle as they started to walk off.

“Josh! You coming mate?”

“Yeah hold on a sec”

He leaned over and gave me a hug, squeezing me slightly. I felt myself go all warm and tried my best not to go red in the cheeks again as he touched my arm lightly.

“I’ll text you”

That’s all he said, simply that. ‘’I’ll text you” as he walked off after Jaymi in the opposite direction. I stood there, slightly baffled and ambled over to the nearest bus stop. What had I got myself into?
