"Come on kiddo, we don't want to be late," I say as I pull his arm in the direction of the school. We walk into the campus and quickly head towards the gym locker rooms. We split up of course, him going to the boys and me, the girls.
I change out of my pj's and take a shower before I change into better clothes. As I finish, I look at myself in the mirror. I flinch. There are dark bags under my stormy grey eyes, and my normally almost white hair is a darker shade from the water still clinging to it. My skin is a porcelain pale and I shiver at the sunken expression on my face.
I quickly look away from the mirror and walk out of the locker room. Callaghan is waiting outside of it and I give him a weak smile as I see him. A frown is marred on his baby face. His baby blue eyes search my face for something, I don't know what. I just looked away from him and began to walk out the gym.
"Are you ok?" he asked as he grabbed my wrist. I looked down at where he had grabbed me and he quickly drops it.
"I'm fine," I say softly, "Don't worry about me, just have a good day and I'll see you after, ok?" I assure him and he nods hesitantly. I keep my head down as I walk to class, not wanting to risk being noticed. I quickly walk past the bustling students in the hallway and sigh when I make it safely to my first period, English.
I sit down in the back of the class and slouch down in my chair. I watch as other students start filing into the classroom. Soon everyone is here and the teacher, Mrs. Hollow, starts to talk about Edger Allan Poe.
Usually I stay unnoticed in the classroom, and the teacher rarely called on me to answer questions in class, thankfully. I was sitting in class dozing off when my name was called. I quickly snap my head up and see the teacher giving me a stern look while some people in the class snickered. Heat rushes to my face and I sink lower into my chair.
"I'm sorry, what?" I ask, embarrassed.
"I said, what was the Cask of Amontillado about?" I clear my throat as I search my brain for the answer. I sit up slightly in my chair and quietly reply.
"The Cask of Amontillado was about a guy who felt betrayed by a man he had once called his friend. His friend insulted him and his family believed in honor. So, the guy set up revenge in the month of carnivale. While his friend is drunk, the guy lewers the offender into the catacombs by telling him he believes that the Amontillado is bad. So he gets him down there and once they reach far away, the narrator chains him up and seals him inside the catacombs with bricks. towards the end, the narrator checks to see if the other dude is alive, and he doesn't answer." I look down at the desk, and when no one answers, I look up. Everyone looks at me in shock, even the teacher. I guess they didn't expect the shy girl to say so much. I blush a deeper shade of red and look back down at my desk.
Mrs. Hollow clears her throat "Right, correct Miss. Lee," I don't look up. For the rest of the period, I keep my head down and when the bell rings, I stay behind for awhile so I can slip out unnoticed. I make it a few steps in the hallway before I hear someone shriek.
"Hey freak, I saw you in the gym this morning," I turn around to see cara, one of the most popular girls in school.
"Are you like homeless?" she asks and her possy giggles behind her. I roll my eyes and turn around to leave, when she grabs my shoulder.
"Hey, I'm talking to you," she shrieks again and I flinch slightly. I look down at the hand still on my shoulder, and then back up at her.
"Get your hand off my shoulder," I say calmly. Clara glares at me.
"What did you say?"
"I said, get your hand off my shoulder. Do I need to repeat myself?" I say louder and she stares at me, baffled. I look at her blankly. She mutters something and then shoves me away from her.
"Whatever, freak!" I sigh and continue walking to my next class. I walk through the door to math and freeze when I see someone sitting in the front row.
"You," I choke out and the guy I saw on the bus looks at me. The guy in my visions. The guy looks at me with disinterest and then turns back to working on whatever it was. I breathe out, trying to stop the panic attack forming and take a seat at my desk. The room starts to spin slightly and my breathing picks up.
I grip my desk and blink my eyes. The world suddenly goes black and I realize what's happening.
I am by myself in a white room. I turn around and see a wall mirror. I walk up to the mirror and start banging on the glass.
"Let me out of here!" I scream as my fist pound into the mirror.
"You are a disgrace to humanity, you deserve to be locked up so you can't harm anyone." a voice booms and I scream louder. My punches get harder as frantically break the glass. I pound it one more time and see the glass crack.
Boom. The crack expands
BOOM. The glass shatters and I step back and hold my hands infront of my face. As the glass clears I see the opening to a hallway. I quickly scramble through the broken shards. Each piece cutting into the bottom of my feet like knives. I run down the hallway and turn left and right at every opening.
I hear feet pounding behind me and the sound of someone yelling stop. I sprint harder and turn left one more time. I see a door and quickly push through it. I walk into a room and see the same boy sitting there with his eyes vacant, and his body deathly still. I scream and sob as I run to him
"ASHER!" I scream at him, somehow knowing his name. I shake him, but he doesn't move.
I scream as I am suddenly back to reality. The vision starts to fade as I realize it's no longer happening. I look around to see I'm in an empty classroom and begin to panic. What happened?
"You passed out in class." I voice says and I snap my head to look at the voice. I look to see the boy again and begin to panic. I stare at him wide eyed and he walks slowly towards me.
"It's ok, I'm not going to hurt you." He says and I noticed a slight southern accent in his voice. He crouches down to where I'm sitting on the floor and my heart picks up speed slightly.
His dark eyes stare at me as I take him in. He is wearing a black shirt that shows off the muscles he has and is wearing dark jeans with combat boots. His nose is slightly crooked, probably from being broken, and he has a strong angled jaw. He has slight stubble growing on his face and his dark black hair slightly hangs in his eyes. I stare at him and he smirks slightly, bringing my attention to his full tanish lips. I snap my eyes back up to his and blush slightly.
"Do you always pass out in the middle of classrooms?" he asks teasingly with a smile and I laugh nervously.
"Not usually," I whisper and his smile widens a little.
"Well, we better get you back to class before the teacher starts to worry, she thinks I took you to the nurse to wake you up." He says and I nod before I realize something.
"Why didn't you take me to the nurse? I mean any normal person would have done that," I say and his jaw tenses a little.
"I'm not a normal person," He says and winks at me, pulling my body off of the floor. I look at him in suspicion as I walk wearily next to him out of the door.
"What's your name?" I ask abruptly, needing to know.
"Asher, yours?" He says and I freeze slightly, my blood running cold as my heart starts to beat frantically.
"Hey, you ok?" Asher looked at me concerned. I just nod and continue walking, a little bit faster now.
"You still haven't answered my question," Asher says from behind me and I stop and turn to look at him.
I give him a cautious smile, "I'm Kasper." His smile slightly falters and his eyebrows slightly knit together.
