Mr. Carlisle looked down the second story window at his daughter, in the pasture with Ryder and Shelia. Smirking, he turned away and leisurely strolled through the room, occasionally stopping to examine something. Reaching her duffel bag, he went through the contents, then put back a disabled IPod, a ruffled through sketch-pad, and the other random objects lodged there. His cover couldn't be blown. He had a lot of experience, and was a perfectionist, so it wasn't likely. Walking out of the room, he thought to himself, I couldn't be stopped now. Not when I had come so far.

"This is pointless, I'm never going to need to learn this," complained Lea. At that Shelia scoffed, and turned away to study her pristine nails.
"It is not pointless!" Ryder took it like a personal offense, but helped Lea down from the dull chestnut horse nonetheless. "You're going to need to learn how to ride a horse! Because if you're going to be staying here, you need to ride."
"Well, what if I'm not staying here?" At that, Shelia looked up.
"Where else could you go?" she sneered. "Nobody else will take you, but feel free to leave whenever!"
"Shelia.."
"Why don't you leave me alone. You don't know me." She spun around and pointed her finger at Ryder. "Neither do you."
Lea walked off. She was tired, and just wanted to go home. Not inside her father's shabby place, but actually home. To her room. Her friend. Her mom. Taking out her phone to text Jane, she realized she had been beat to it.
Call me ASAP!
Did you get there yet?!?!?!?!
Lea, answer me!!!
R u OK?!?
lea, please!!
IF U DON'T ANSWER ME I WILL WHOOP UR ASS!!!!
Smirking, Lea hastily replied. She couldn't keep Jane waiting. Jane was her best friend. They had only met 2 years prior, but something had sparked, and they were inseparable. Until Lea pushed her out of course. At that thought, her face immediately sank. She knew she was horrible for what she did, yet Jane had only been waiting with her arms open. Jane was somebody you wouldn't easily get rid of.
Calm down, I'm fine. I'm at my dads weird ranch
It was only minutes until a response came through.
OMG how is it? Are there a lot of people? how's your dad? are there a lot of animals?
Well, idk what his deal is. Randomly showing up to take me in when he abandoned us? Totally jack-ass if u ask me. Speaking of asses, there are a lot of horses here. It stinks (both ways). There r 2 other people; Ryder the cowboy and Shelia, who was apparently elected queen before i came. But how r u?
OMG make sure you tell the horses Janey say hi! at that lea smiled; nothing like Jane to lift her spirits. And don't worry bout ur dad, hes here cuz he loves u. And sorry bout Shelia the She-Devil, but u should SO go after Ryder.
Pfft, yeah right. Hes in love with his horses. Totally not hot. And that nickname is awesome. But i have to go. Dinner. I smell BBQ, so my spirits might be lifted tho. xoxo
KK, don't forget bout me! xoxo
Sighing, lea tucked her phone in her pocket and followed her nose. As much as she hated it here, the food was promising.

After the dinner with her father, Lea wasn't sure if she was more stressed or relaxed. She knew he was only trying to patch things up between them, but she wasn't a pair of jeans that you could just sew up and put on again. She felt like walking it out, so she slipped on her flip-flops and quietly walked out of the house. Shockingly, it cooled down a bit, so it was bearable to be outside. Almost pleasant, actually. But now what? She breathed in the cool air, almost accustomed to the stink now, and headed toward the stables.
