Chapter 10: Verge

I looked at myself in the mirror as soon as I went inside my unit. Hindi ko maintindihan ang sarili ko. I feel so mad but I also feel sad and scared.

I don't know what's happening to me. I don't know if it's because of my family or because of him.

It's scary because I wasn't supposed to feel these kinds of emotions yet I am feeling it now. I used to be so in control of my feelings but now, I couldn't seem to have a grasp of the madness I am feeling.

"Anong nangyayari sayo, Gertrude? Okay ka lang dapat," I muttered while looking at my reflection.

I sighed and decided to take a shower to ease my mind and when I went out, I heard a series of knocks on my unit's door.

I didn't know what had gotten into me at nanlalaki ang mata kong binuksan iyon, only for me to frown when I saw my friends as I opened it.

"Okay ka na ba? Masakit pa ba tiyan mo?" Kelssey worriedly asked and went inside. Nakasunod naman sa kanya si Olive na nanatili ang tingin sa'kin.

"Ah, medyo," I answered and got what they were holding, a box of pizza.

"Did you cry? Namamaga ang mata mo," Olive suddenly asked and that's when I realized that my make-up got erased when I took a shower.

"Ah, ano... sa CR kanina, ang sakit kasi," I answered and rubbed my stomach.

"Oh, hala, do you have medicine? Mukhang malala na 'yan ah? Ano ba kasing kinain mo?"

I sighed, medyo nakakaguilty na nagsisinungaling na naman ako but I just can't...

"Di, medyo okay na rin naman ngayon. Thank you sa pagdala ng favorite ko, mga alipin ko," I chuckled and took a slice of pizza out of the box.

"Sure ka talaga?" Olive asked and I just gave her a nod.

We were in the middle of eating and watching a movie when my phone rang. Nasa coffee table iyon at malapit kay Kelssey kung kaya't kinuha niya iyon para iabot sa'kin.

"Tumatawag si Alistair oh," she said with her teasing voice, ako naman ay bahagyang nagulat.

Tumatawag siya sa'kin ngayon? Bakit? Tapos na ba siya? Tapos na ba sila sa date o kung anumang ginagawa nila?

"Huwag mong sagutin," I casually said and even lifted my feet para ipatong 'yon sa sofa.

Kelssey looked puzzled, even Olive who's now also looking at me.

"Huh? Bakit?" Kelssey asked.

I shrugged my shoulders. "Ah, wala naman. Busy ako, nanonood tayo, diba?"

Olive furrowed her brows. "Nag-away ba kayo?"

What? I laughed.

"Ano ba naman 'yan! 'Wag nga kayong mag-overthink! 'Di kami nag-away, okay?" I answered and crossed my arms as I let my gaze fall on the tv again.

"He's calling again, Gi, patayin ko ba?" Kelssey asked and I nodded but the fool messed it up.

"Ay hala, omg! Nasagot ko yata!" Natataranta niyang sabi at napakamot naman ako ng ulo. "Kausapin mo nalang," she mouthed at bagsak naman ang balikat kong inabot ang phone para sagutin ang tawag.

"Hello," nababagot kong sagot.

"Tumawag ka pala, ngayon ko lang nakita. Nalowbat kasi ako kanina," dirediretso niyang sabi na ikinataas ng kilay ko.

Wow! Nalowbat? O pinatay kasi ayaw maisturbo sa date?

"Okay lang naman, mali lang ako ng natawagan. Hindi dapat ikaw 'yon." I answered.
