It all happened so fast.
Levi had tears on his beautiful gray-blue eyes.

Of course, they were hard to notice since his right eye and his head were covered in bandages. As well as his right hand that was, now, missing two fingers.

"Why did it have to end like this...?"

Mikasa had told Levi and Armin to let her kill Eren. That was the situation at that exact moment.

Surely, nobody wanted to support such a tremendous act. But it seemed like that world and that future needed it.

Thus they proceeded as planned.

There was no other way.

"But yet... Was there really no other way...?"

When his pale and tired face looked down, Levi noticed he was already on the ground.

"By this moment... Eren must be..."

In that precise instant, all around Levi became sand and an infinite sky with lots of sparkling dots captured his attention.

He warned himself.

"This place...!?"

His mind told him to stand up and get ready to fight.
That's what his brain was used to listening from Levi's inner voice.

But he was now struggling: he didn't have the energy to get up any more.

Levi felt very tired. His mind, his body, his soul. Thus, he remained seated.

But, as he sighed, his gut told him to turn around quickly.

- Captain... -

Levi froze. His eyes couldn't bare the view in front of him.

"Why is he... here?"

After a moment of desperation, Levi acquired a worried expression.

"It didn't work...? Damn it. Maybe killing his body was not enough. I don't know how this place works... What do I do now?"

Eren, then, met the other person's eyes with a face that emanated sadness.

Reacting to that gaze, Levi had no idea of the expression on his own face. But to Eren it was very clear.

Sorrow.

- You shouldn't be here... - Levi talked, trying hard not to surrender to his sentiments and distancing himself from Eren who was also seated on that ephemeral sand.

There was silence.

- I have to kill you. -

- ... The first time we met you said that, didn't you? -

- I would've killed you, if you lost control. -

Silence again.

Eren kept on looking at Levi without a real expression that could hint any hidden false moves.

"That kind of face... In my memories, it wasn't that disappointed and sad."

That was his thought as he remembered the Captain's tender smile.

Afterwards, Eren reached out to the other's cheek with his hand.

- These bandages and scars... It's all my fault. - Successively, he held Levi's right hand and looked at it with guilt.

Even though Levi was taken aback and didn't know how to react, he felt the warmth of the body contact and, for the first time in years, he sensed that the other person's gesture was not gory but gentle.
