"Well, well." A distantly familiar male voice sounded from behind me, over the loud pop music.
I spun around, and to my pleasant surprise found Thomas watching me with amusement. Sara and I had bumped into him at the small bar in town a few days ago, where he had given me his number but I had never made any attempt at contacting him. He had been very sweet though, and was quite handsome.
"Hi!" I smiled widely, no longer dancing but still swaying to the strange song, "I knew we would bump into each other again."
His eyes left mine and he realised I was very close to the booth Christopher had reserved for his friends, Rebecca and me. "No chance you're here with Chris?"
"I am," I tilted my head with amused curiosity, "don't tell me you are, too?"
He chuckled and inched closer, hand reaching for my waist when an unknown person bumped into my side lightly, "it's a small world, Bella. You never texted."
"I honestly wasn't interested," I told him honestly, "you're hot, and all, but I don't need anything more in my life right now."
"All I hear is that you find me hot," he grinned, continuing to inch closer so we didn't have to raise our voices, "how do you know Chris?"
"My sister's marrying his cousin," I waved my hand around to simplify the whole thing, "I'm here for the wedding."
"Marrying and pregnant? Scandalous," he teased, and I laughed, quite tipsy at this point.
We had arrived a few hours ago, and it had quickly become clear that Rebecca and I were more outgoing and upfront than Christopher and his friends, who were all rather hesitant and shy. After a few drinks most of them had loosened up, but remained at the secluded booth of the bar. There were few people under the age of forty outside of our group here, so I had resulted into dragging Rebecca with me to dance in their midst. Not long after, liquid courage had hit Christopher, who had then joined us on the floor and asked Rebecca to dance with him. He had remained all too polite for our tastes, but since I had spoken of his interest in her earlier today, she had been prepared and open to the idea.
As the two danced behind me, I was now left with the newly arrived Thomas.
"I would thank him for the invite, but he seems busy.." he nodded over my shoulder. I glanced back to find Rebecca's arms wrapped around Christopher's shoulders, enveloped in quite a heated snog. My eyes widened and smile morphed into a pleased grin, finding them incredibly cute and proud of my wingwomaning.
While I was still discreetly observing the two, I felt Thomas' other hand find my waist as well, front brushing against mine now. I turned back to him, unfazed by his closeness as I peered up at him.
"I like your dress," he leaned in, lips brushing against the side of my ear, "little black dresses are my weakness." Maybe it was because of the alcohol, but his hot breath and touch ignited barely any feelings inside me.
"Thank you," I smiled, hips obliviously moving along with the beat, before admitting, "I was expecting for someone to come tonight, but he hasn't. I did tell him not to come, but he's not one to take no for an answer."
"Finders keepers, then," he grinned playfully, and I let my arms lazily loop around his neck to steady myself, "I've got here first." His words went in one ear and out the other, my mind not bothering to register their pointless meaning. His intentions had been quite clear from the moment he had sat down with Sara and me, but my interest in him remained minute and unchanged.
"You look weirdly familiar," I decided after observing him for a moment in the dimness of the lively bar, him now moving against me and following my rhythm, "have I met you before the pub in town?"
