"Anna, Wake up!"

"Mmm... "

"An! Wake up, now!"

"Ugh, leave me alone, I want to sleep."

"Wake up you lazy cow! There's a family coming to see us!"

"What?!" I quickly sat up, pushing Serene's arms off of me, and ran to the bathroom across the dull corridor to jump in the shower. Today might be my day!

Serene ran after me yelling, "There's no time for a stupid shower, get dressed and let's go eat, before Matron clears it all away and we'll be left to starve!" She grabbed my arm and dragged me back into my shared room and started pulling my clothes out, one by one, from my almost empty chest of drawers.

"Ughh, but I really need a shower. Oh and I doubt that you'll find anything nice in there. I keep my nice clothes in the blue box in the bottom drawer." I explained laying down once again on my bed.

"Ok," She simply replied, leaving the top drawer open with a top hanging out of it, and opening the bottom drawer where she found the small, blue box, "ahh, there it is."

She took the box and opened it to find a single worn-out blue dress, and a pair of slightly bruised blue flats (shoes).

"Is that all you really have?" she glanced back at me holding up the dress.

"Well... Yes, that's all." I sighed, I could count all of my clothes on my two hands, and owned only two pairs of shoes: the blue flats and the now grey trainers.

I then pointed to the dress, "That one is the best I have."

"But you've worn it every time a family comes!"

"Well, tough. I don't have anything else that's atleast a little bit nice."

I stood up sighing, and grabbed the dress. Serene also stood up, turning to face me with a sympathetic look on her face.

"I can lend you one of mine. If you'd like?"

"Thank you, but no, Matron'll get mad at us again, and then I'd have no chance whatsoever once again on getting a family." I looked at her with my arms folded and a dissaproving look on my face. "Now, let's go, I'm dressed and I've brushed my hair, I want to eat before the family comes."

"Ok, well atleast I tried."

I looked at her once again and shook my head before linking our arms and leaving my room.

________

We quickly ran down the many corridors and stair cases of the west wing (aka the girls side) of the children's home, only to be abruptly stopped by Matron half walf down from the floor my room is on.

"Girls slow down, you are going to trip over your own feet, and where on earth have you two been, breakfast finishes in eight minutes!" she scolded us once again.

"Sorry Matron," we both replied at the same time.

"I may or may not have overslept a teensy bit, Matron. But I'm awake now." I continued, as I pressed my pointer finger and thumb together emphasising the words 'teensy bit'.

"Well that's not good enough, now go to eat breakfast whilst you still have time! And when you are done, I'd like you to come outside at the front of this building to say your goodbyes to James Elliot, I'm sure he'd appreciate it." Oh well, I guess it isn't my day then, I thought to myself as the smile etched on my face instantly disappeared. "Now, chop chop, you only have six minutes left to eat!"

And with that we scurried away to the canteen to have our breakfast before our time ran out.

________

When we got there, we only had three minutes left, so we both grabbed a bowl of cereal each and started shoveling the food into our mouths, whilst still trying to catch our breath from having to run so far.

Once we both finished our bowls we brought them to the kitchen to scrub the bowls clean.

"Ugh, I can't believe it! We were only a minute late, and we still have to scrub these stupid bowls clean!" I groaned, outraged at such nonsense.

"Language, young ladies, or I'll have you scrub everyone's dishes clean!" Matron warned us.

"Well that's riddikulus!" Serene whisper shouted to me.

(a/n: pun intended)

I nodded back at her instead of replying and continued scrubbing my bowl.

"At this rate, we won't even be able to say goodbye to James!" Serene broke the silence.

"At this rate, I'll never get a family." I glumly replied, wiping my bowl dry and putting it away, a huge frown on my face, "I've always wanted a family, even more so my biological family."

"Oh don't be such a Debbie downer."

"I can be sad all I want, besides atleast you've seen your real family before, I don't even know mine. I don't even know if they exist! And all three families that have looked after me, changed their minds of wanting to adopt me after only the second day of actually being with me!" a tear rolled down my pale white face.

"Oh don't cry. You just haven't found the right family yet. I haven't either, see? After all that's why I'm still here, right?" she hugged me tightly and tried to reassure me.

"Yes, but all the families that looked after you actually wanted to adopt you."

"Yes, but all 6 families were only able to have me for 2 months each max before Matron told them that my biological parents didn't approve. So we are equal."

"No we are not. We are not equal. They wanted to have you, no one wanted me. You know your actual family, I don't. You are loved, and I'm not!" I sobbed even harder now, my eyes turning a stormy grey from an ocean blue, and all hope lost for myself to ever have a family that wants me, or a family at all.

"Oh, Anna, I'll be with you. I love you, ok? You are my bestest friend ever, I I wouldn't want it any other way!" she wiped my tears away and hugged me once more, but tighter thus time.

"Ree, I... Can't... Breathe." I gasped.

"Oh, sorry Ann, I didn't mean to." she apologised as she let me go and smile at me sheepishly.

"It's ok, I know you didn't mean to. Now, let's go say goodbye to James before it's too late." I smiled back at her, my eyes finally changing back to the ocean blue that they usually are, and linked our arms, for the second time today, before we both skipped off to say our goodbyes to James.
