This chapter takes place in Ivory's sorting ceremony and train ride in first year, however, the book starts at 4th year.
Ivory didn't know how to feel, her parents were seemingly excited for their daughter to finally be out of their hair for a few months. Her parents never seemed to pay her much attention. They never cared if she made a new friend or scraped her knee, her father would most likely say "it's just a scrape, be thankful you didn't lose a leg!"
She often wondered if her parents cared about her at all; if they did they didn't show it."The Malfoys are over there dear, let's go say hello," her mother made sure to keep her close to other pureblood kids, such as herself. Draco Malfoy, Pansy Parkinson, Theo Nott, Blaise Zabini and Daphne Greengrass had been her friends since she was 5, they all grew up together.
"Do we have to mother? Can't we go and talk to the Parkinson's instead?" Ivory pleaded. "Don't be ridiculous Ivory, Draco has been your friend for years, I expect you to have manners Ivory."Her and Draco weren't as close as the rest of the group. The others believed it was because they were far too similar but Ivory and Draco always shrugged that comment off, Ivory even remembered Draco saying "if I was even somewhat similar to Flint I would pitch myself off my manor." Ivory made sure to get her revenge after that. She recalled the blonde boy missing an eyebrow or two for a while, curtesy of her favourite house elf, Maggie.
"Ah look it's the Flints, Draco be nice to Ivory." Narcissa was Ivory's role model growing up, she was often inspired by the woman's stubbornness and pride. "No promises mother, she's the bane of my existence. Even Astoria Greengrass is more pleasant to be around and she's one of the most insufferable witches to exist!"
"Now now Draco, be polite! You know fully well that we expect our family to be respected in pureblood Britain and we can't do that if your mean to everyone's children!" Lucius Malfoy never did know how to be a proper, loving father. As Ivory and her family approached she heard a slap, resulting in Draco having a red hand painted on his face. As much as Ivory despised her father, she was glad to at least not get slapped or beat. A year ago, after Lucius found out that Draco thanked his house elf Mippy for bringing him his dinner, he punched him, resulting in a broken nose."good afternoon Narcissa, Lucius." Ivory's mother greeted "how are things with you Alisandre?" As Ivory and Dracos mums were talking, their fathers began a whispered conversation, leaving Ivory and Draco standing their awkwardly.
"What did you do to your hair?" Draco spitefully asked
"what do you mean Draco? my hairs normal"
"well, it looks disgusting. You look like a mouse!"
Ivory's long, black hair was styled in half up half down space buns, two little ribbons tying them together.
"alright casper calm down, what did you do to your hair? It looks like you dunked your hair in troll snot!"
"oh you little-"
Before Draco or Ivory could do anything Narcissa interrupted, "come along now children, the train will be leaving soon."❾¾
Ivory sat with all her friends in a compartment on the hogwarts express, Draco included, much to her dismay.
"what house do you suppose we'll be in?" Daphne asked the group.
"If I don't get slytherin, my parents will disown me." Draco spoke up, the rest of them quietly agreeing. Most people believed a Pureblood life to be amazing, you get wealth, status and an extremely easy life. However, no one ever sees the other side. Ivory and her friends were taught growing up that they are the supreme breed, being anything but pureblood is a sin. Whilst kids their age went to theme parks and beaches, ate ice cream and played outside, pureblood kids like Ivory got taught Latin and their ancestry. The boys were taught to never fail and the girls were taught to be obedient wives. If you were unfortunate enough you also got given injuries and scars for your failures. Pureblood kids like Ivory and her friends weren't lucky to be pureblood, they were cursed.

The great hall was more magical than Ivory ever imagined it would be. The ceiling gave the impression of a beautiful night sky, with sparkling stars and wispy clouds, accompanied by hundreds of candles that floated above the four long wooden tables. At the end of the hall was the teachers table and sat right in the middle was the headmaster, Dumbledore. On his head was placed a periwinkle, pointy hat, accompanied by a matching set of robes. On the arch of his nose perched crescent moon shaped glasses and a wide smile was plastered on his face. Ivory admired the mans style.
The witch Ivory knew to me Professor McGonagall stood next to a stool with an old hat on top.The sorting ceremony was soon to be over, all of her friends had managed to get into slytherin. Every time they were sorted Ivory noticed a silence in the hall, most slytherins cheered of course but the rest of the hall seemed to despise every knew slytherin. They were clearly the outcasts. Finally, McGonagall called "Ivory Flint!"
Ivory gulped before stepping up to the stool, she felt her brother shooting her daggers which only made her more nervous. None the less, Ivory remembered the words her mother had said to her the night before "remember, confidence is all you need. Even if your scared, you have to live up to the Flint name. Fake it till you make it." She straightened her posture and with her head held high she sat on the stool and let the hat be placed onto her head."Ivory Flint, I wondered when i'd be seeing you. Your ambitious, no doubt about it and you possess the traits to make you great. I know just where to put you. SLYTHERIN!"
With a shaky exhale and a small thank you to salazar that she was where her parents wanted her, she walked proudly to the slytherin table, smiling to her friends.
