YET ANOTHER MONTH had flown by. the qishanwen clan became more tyrannical with every passing day. they massacred the runanwang clan, hefongfu clan, and dozens of others. anxiety bubbled up in me as the days passed, and i still hadn't gotten any flashbacks since the archery competition back in qishan.
i was laying outside on one of the piers outside of my shared room with xiao-ge, watching the stars in an attempt to subdue my anxiety. "a-ru," a familiar, gentle voice called out to me, and of course, i had already known who it was.
"what's up shijie?" i greeted her, still gazing at the stars as she walked over and sat next to me. "is something troubling you? usually you only stargaze all by your lonesome when something is," she inquired concerned for my well-being. i stayed silent for a moment, as i had horrible thoughts. for someone who i had only met about two months ago, she knew me very well.
"do you... do you think we will be next?" i murmured with a frown, not even daring to look at her. "next in what?" her tone was a bit confused. "the wens are growing more and more audacious by the day, and they have massacred dozens of clans already. do you think they will massacre our clans next...?" she didn't respond, as she too looked up at the stars.
"only time will tell. for now, let's live life to the fullest. there's no point in dwelling on something that hasn't happened yet." she looked back at me, while holding my hand in an attempt to calm me down. she succeeded in doing so, but that only lasted for a few seconds when i felt a migraine coming on.
considering i hadn't had one for a month, it was a good sign. but at the same time, it worried me, knowing that this flashback could very well be horrific to witness.

the smell of smoke and blood filled my nostrils as i saw a place engulfed in flames. it was the cloud recesses. lan wangji stood in the doorway with an expression of contempt and anger, his guqin lying by his feet in shambles. wen ruohan's oldest son, wen xu, was the one leading the intrusion.
moments later, lan wangji's blood curdling scream filled my eardrums. all i could see was the night sky, the raging flames, and the pillars of smoke that rose to the sky, as i forced myself to look up, terrified of what i might see if i dared to look back down again.
