James and Kiera walked through the winding halls in silence, the boots they were wearing creating a distinct sound when they walked, when James asked,"Hey, do you know where we are right now?"
"Erm.."James suddenly took her hand and said,"Come on!"
They ran, until James stopped abruptly, making Kiera crash into him. He seemed unfazed by it as he helped her get up and said,"Okay. Don't freak out " , as her led her towards what seemed a large, slightly curved glass window.
She looked through it and let out a gasp. What she saw shocked her.All she saw were clouds. Beneath the white, there were a few sights of beauty. Sunlight glinted on lakes with a slight hue of the light blue sky reflecting back, there were a few spots of greenery among snow capped mountains. And then there were huge areas where it was dark and barren, remnants of the accident that happened eons ago.
Trapped into the triple glaze of the window were tiny, delicate, ice crystals that caught the sun.
She turned to him, catching him smiling slightly at her expression.
" This place, this whole thing, its a-"
"Hovercraft. Yup. Pretty cool huh?"
"Yeah. Wow. I've never seen a hovercraft go so high. But how is it carrying such a heavy weight?" She asked turning to him."We owe it all to our aeronautical engineers. One in particular. She's a genius. She was an astronaut before, roaming the infinite abyss and living with the stars at the time of the accident, and when she came back and saw the world in chaos, she decided to join our cause. "
"It's unbelievable." she said, absently gazing out the window, thinking about how James was so poetic at times while such an idiot at others.
" She designed it when she noticed that wherever we went, however concealed our hideout was, we were always found by the Hunters. Her and a group of very dedicated engineers ventured out to the Barren lands, scavenging for any technology left behind. We got the minerals from an open abandoned mine and new technology was built and well... over two years of intense hard work and there you go." he said looking around at where they were standing.
"People still worked after we took to the sky. The west wing is still under construction. "
"This is really amazing. How come the public don't know much about this?" She asked.
"I think it's because people are ignorant. They decide to not believe what right In front of their eyes. It's as if they'll ignore the problem, it'll go away. It's stupid really.Everyone knows about us. They just choose not to believe it. " James said, his voice taking a higher tone.
Kiera remembered the stories of the 'fire throwers' that she heard from the older kids at the orphanage.
" -The man was furious, and he seemed to burn with anger. -" She remembered a story. "-He seemed to emit a sort of glow, and burn he did, his arms bursting into flames. The fear of the people seemed to fuel him..."She shuddered as she remembered the nightmares that particular story had bought her. 'So it was real. ' she thought.
Breaking her reverie, James spoke. " C'mon . Let's meet the lady that made all this possible. "He led her through more winding hallways, twisting and sometimes ending abruptly at places which began again on the other side of a Titanium door.
She followed him into a heavily secured area, where she saw guards, apart from the technological security, for the first time.
James took out a card from a well hidden pocket in his dark grey jacket and showed it to one of the guards at a certain door, who allowed him access, but stopped Kiera, extending a scarred arm .
