I wasn't allowed to do much growing up. Especially as the youngest daughter, my duty was always to be a good wife and daughter, nothing more.

But sometimes on rare occasions, I would be let outside in the garden with my mamma. She would attend to her flowers and I would sit and watch.

Until one day, a pretty orange butterfly landed on my flower patterned dress. I was in wonder every time I saw a butterfly. So I would take one every time I saw one and bring it inside with me. Unfortunately at some point the butterflies started dying off, so I would bring a pretty flower from the garden for them.

Only it didn't fix the issue, both the flowers and butterflies started dying off.

My face starts to sting from the impact of my father's hand.

"Riccardo, it's enough! She's had enough!" My mother sobs.

My father steps closer to me and points his finger at me. Mamma puts her hands on his chest to get him to stop.

"This is a second chance, not just for you. But for us, your sisters and brothers. Your poor mother couldn't even go out because of what you did."

I try to stay still, but it was very hard to keep the tremors from showing. One of the many things my father's enemies and his children fear of him. Is his capability to keep his voice calm.

"Leave." He finishes.

I don't bother wiping the tears until I'm outside of his office.

Everything goes on as a blur, time passes like a black and white show.

Someone is grabbing me.

"Sorella, vieni." (Sister, come.)

I blink, and I'm in a tub.

I close my eyes at the feel of my head being washed, and opened them up when Ava starts speaking.

"You need to start taking care of yourself sorellina." (Little sister)

"You are mother, and soon you will be bride again."

I smile at my sister's attempt to speak English. She has gotten better, but unlike me Ava did not go to an American school.
